I was an extra for such forgetable films as Celtic Pride and this wrestling movie with Oliver Platt and Rose McGowan (can't even remember the name of that one!). You sit around for hours being yelled at like you're a toddler...can't take a pee break without permission...can't talk during takes...forced to say "OOOhh, AAAhh" for hours and the food service sucks, they save the good food for the "stars." Plus you don't generally get paid, unless you live in L.A. and make movie extra your living...that's where I got to be in the bad wrestling movie. |

For me, it wasn't too bad (extra in crowd at soccer match). I brought a book, and ending up reading it twice, though. My sister, however, was stuck playing the opposing goalie. For about an hour, she had to (a) let the other team score, but (b) make it look like she wasn't letting the other team score. As most of the balls were kicked right to her, she had problems with this. CF |

I was a Senior in High School at the time and a bunch of us from my school were chosen to be extras. Mostly we sat around in a lounge room snacking on pastries and pop (aka Soda for you easterners, aka coke for you sotherners). We got paid minimum wage. Not bad pay for hanging out with your friends eating pastries. You can spot me and my friends in a few spots, but most noticeable is my close up. There's a party scene that starts with about 1 second of a couple in a car making out and then pans to the rest of the party. I'm the guy in the car making out. |
