Bush diverted levee repair funds to Iraq

Bush sent most of the National Guard to Iraq. Bush is the Commander-in-Chief and delayed sending the Guard that WAS left in the States to New Orleans. Why couldn't they get in? Seems like every news outlet in the country was driving in and out of there. Where was the food and water that should have been airlifted in to the shelters right after the hurricane? WHY WAS BUSH STILL ON VACATION? OVER 300 DAYS OF VACATION SINCE HE TOOK OFFICE? Did THIS delay him?

Let's not be naive, people. Thousands of lives could have been saved by fortifing the levees. Why was the money slated for this sent to Iraq?

I agree that the levees were neglected, but as so where that mon-ay went...I don't think it went to Iraq, it probably went somewhere in our country or in Louisiana...good point though.

One of my daughter's friend's boyfriend got sent there by the military and he said that for about two or three days, it seemed very unorganized and it didn't seem like they were really doing anything. I'm not sure what was up with that, but maybe it was easier to get the people there than get the equipment there quickly. My dad saw some military vehicles rolling through our town in Oklahoma on Saturday.

#1, the leveys are NOT national problem. That is New Orleans, the mayor should have done something with them. They were built in the 60s and no mayor has done anything to them since. That is not a national government responsibility. As for the delay of troops, yes we have the troops spread a little thin. But that is not entirely the fault of Bush. You give WAY to much power to a guy who really has none. Its the head of the military and homeland defense who made the decision that the national guard would become an active group constantly in use. They put a lot of them in Iraq because of the limited number of our other armed forces. Many soldiers have spent 2-4 tours over there already because we simply dont have a large enough military. Plus we are still scattered about the globe. Not just iraq and afghanistan, we have troops in countries in europe, and africa, and other parts of asia year round.

RE: Bush diverted levee repair funds to Iraq

yea, this isn't a national problem. It isn't going to effect the nation at all. It is not like we are going to have higher gas and energy prices. It isn't like the cost of bananas, coffee, seafood, and a mountain other items are going to go up. Insurance rates will only go up in New Orleans. There will be no shortage of building supplies in the coming months forcing prices through the roof. This is only a New Orleans problem.

They say a little knowledge is a dangerous thing and that makes you guys some of the most dangerous people around.

your absolutely right, SYFM. If only the levees had been stronger, the oil rigs would have been saved.

At first I thought maybe I had done a typo. Nope, adam is just a blind ass monkey who can't read. TOURS not hours moron. Tour of duty being a set period of months in which they are stationed in warzones.

Maybe you are too old to have a vietnam vet dad or something so its foreign to you. a Tour of Duty is the common term for time spent overseas at war in any given period. Most soldiers are there for I believe 4-6 months per tour, meaning some of these guys have spent nearly a full 2 years of thier life in iraq already because the military doesn't have enough people to rotate through. Depending on a persons MOS they can be forced to stay in warzones for extended periods since they are in a limited specialty thats highly required.

So what if Bush diverted funds, it would have taken at least 10 years or so for the upgrades to be completed, so it would not of helped New Orleans during this last hurricane, it still would of flooded. Besides if he did approve the funds there would be major complaining about the amount of money Bush was spending. OH THE DEFICIT IS TOO HIGH!! Damn if he does, damn if he dont.

it wouldnt take ten years to complete, im sure...then you would have to look at clinton... it must have been the intern who brought his attention away from that memo..
maybe this is monica lewinskys fault

if u wanna bring it back that far, we might as well blame the french, for selling us that peice of land...hell we might as well blame the british because they are the ones who made fun of our religions which is why this country came to be...or maybe this all happened because of The Big Bang.

Well however long it takes it still wouldnt have been done before Katrina hit. even if it was reinforced, there might still have been alot of death and destruction, a meteor could have hit the city (which would have been Bushs fault because he diverted funds from somthing or didnt sign Kyoto or somthing and stuff). WHEN another hurricane strikes the city Im sure they will be better prepared to handle the situation and im sure the people will be more willing to leave. Mistakes were made on ALL levels and I hope and pray that people learn from them and not make the same mistakes twice.

Funny how whenever adam joins a normal conversation it always ends up sounding like some five year old trying to join a conversation on quantum physics.
