I find our stance on global warming a bit problematic. First of all I know that the world has had cooling and warming cycles in the past, and that they are still going on. I do challenge everyone to think about one thing: Can all that we are pumping into the atmosphere now, here and abroad, be good for the environment? All need to come together as a civilization and realize that we have the technology and ability to do what we do with less emissions, or more efficiently, we should. I know that is a lofty goal, kind of like world peace, but we need to try. I don't think we should make the jump alone though, but many in Europe are already using cleaner and more renewable energy. They may not have some of the infrastructure issues as we have for electricity though, especially in rural areas. We also have many areas in the country that aren't able to sell any produced electricity at a reasonable rate. We can not sit back and say that emissions coupled with deforestation aren't having an effect on the atmosphere. I do not like some of what is in the legislation that has been proposed, but I shudder at the thought of the EPA running the show. I think we need to be proactive and start making suggestions, and trying to work with private sector companies to get some of the renewables developed better. |
