Mayor

The election of a mayor was started several years ago. I supported this process as at that time the existing council did not rotate the position annually, but kept the position tightly held by only a minority of council members.

One advantage to having an elected mayor is that the mayor must be elected every two years by the citizens of Pleasanton. This allows the election of the mayor and two council persons every two years, with the potential of a completely new council every two years. While this cannot completely eliminate malfesience (sp), it does increase the accountability of the elected officials to the citizen of Pleasanton.
