I know that historically, a flu pandemic strikes about every 50 years and that we're slightly overdue. I also realize that the bird flu, which has been around for quite some time, has taken a sudden increase. But how it gets translated with such certainty in the media as THE NEXT pandemic, is beyond me. It's just as likely that the next pandemic could be a completely different viral source, and no one will see it coming because the scientific community is so preoccupied with Avian flu. |
