Where's AT&T Wireless?

What about AT&T wireless! They suck and blow at the same time! They said I could move and still keep my contract! THEY LIE! They made us terminate and still pay the $400 fee for it cause we moved to an area w/o AT&T. Three months later a brand new, shinny AT&T wireless store opened at our local mall. I was ****ed, they suck. And now they're buying out other decent companies.... grrrr AT&T

but I did have a really shitty experience with them too. They blatantly lied to me in ways I've never experienced with any customer service before. I've had cingular for a few months now and they seem ok.

RE: Where's AT&T Wireless?

Actually, Cellular One became Cingular, and Cingular bought AT&T Wireless. So there is no AT&T Wireless anymore.

Interesting thing is that Cingular is ownned in part by SBC. SBC just bought AT&T. (AT&T used to own AT&T Wireless.) SBC is going to stop using the SBC name, and start using the AT&T name. So a company named AT&T will now be the part owner of Cingular which bought AT&T Wireless, which used to be owned by a company named AT&T, but not the same company named AT&T.

Almost sounds like hillbilly geneology.

RE: Where's AT&T Wireless?

SBC and AT&T are together now...

Being Accounts Payable for the company that I work for...SBC long distance ticked me off the worst because I couldn't figure out why they weren't applying all of our payments, and it went back to 2003, but they finally found our payments, they were in a lock box that just sits there until someone claims it...Cingular shut my bosses phone because I received the invoice for it about a week and a half after it was due, and then I sent in the payment AND called them and reported the payment, a week later they shut it off and so I YELLED at them that it was so not fair to charge us for a reconnection fee, I didn't get anywhere...

Alltel sucks...when we moved our corporate office, I had to BEG for invoices that didn't make it here after the address change...they shut off a phone once because we owed them 67 cents...I guess I entered the amount wrong in the system, not sure, anyway, yea, they cut it off for that!

RE: Where's AT&T Wireless?

SBC was originally part of the big original AT&T that controlled everything to do with land line phones since their inception. The goverment broke up AT&T into the bell system, and SBC (southern bell company) was one of the 16 bells. What was left of AT&T later split into 4 lines of service: Consumer service (home phone), business services (work phone), wireless, and cable television. The cable division is now completely owned by Comcast. Cingular purchased the wireless division. AT&T recently announced that it will be dissolving its consumer services division to focus on the business services division, which was recently bought out by SBC. So of the huge monster that was once AT&T, all assets and intellectual property are now owned by other companies. AT&T essentially doens't exist anymore, with the only exception being that SBC is taking their name. When SBC purchased AT&Ts remaining service line, they acquired rights to the name. The name is still such a household name that it has plenty of brand equity left.
