Nazi cosplay

People who cosplay Millennium characters have had to be careful with the swastikas. It's generally understood when you're within a convention center, but while standing in line outside you probably want to keep them hidden ^_~

You know, I'd still be scared to cosplay a Millenium character though. XD

Nazis

Ahh I see. Thank you Erin now I can pronounce manga without looking like I don't know anime. :D Thank you also for explaining the Nazi situation to me. You're right, they don't spout anti-sematic statements or anything, they're pretty much just regular bad guys. I hadn't thought about it that way. I agree, if someone does agree with the Nazi beliefs they do have problems. :( Thanks again! =^..^=

All of the series in the poll have been, or soon will be, involved in Shine, so I wanted to see how well-known they were. FMA won't be here in the near future (though eventually . . .)

1) It's mahn-ga. When written in the Roman alphabet, Japanese sounds are always transcribed the same way, and the "a" is said "ah. So Sailor Moon's name is oo-sah-gi, Hellsing's author is Kohta Hir-ah-no, and that stuff you watch is, yes, ah-nee-may.

2) I think that it would be different if the Millennium Nazis actually spouted anti-semite doctrines, but none of them seem to care too much about killing the Jews. If not for the swastikas, most of the characters could pass for general "let's kill people and make trouble for the good guys" villains. (And, probably, nobody would be giving their fans weird looks ^_~)

I think it's a mistake to make a big deal about it, unless a fan (or Hirano) actually starts saying "I like this character because s/he shares my racist philosophy." Then you can get worried.

Nazis

Hey Erin, I've got another question. :) (Actually two.) 1. How do you pronounce manga? Is it mahnga or may-nga? 2. In the Hellsing manga, the nazis are often potrayed as being funny, attractive (Rip,) or downright cute (Schro.) I understand that there needs to be comic relief, but I've noticed that a lot of people (especially on deviantart) seem to side with the nazis, which I think is disturbing. I know I'd be upset if Schro got killed. How do you feel about Hirano's portrayal of the Nazis? I know also many times they are shown in their true colors, killing people, etc. On one hand, Nazis to me are anything but cute. On the other I know it is just a book and I can look past the portrayl of Nazis without disliking the manga at all. I'd just like to know your opinion. =^..^=

Rika-chan

Lol, it's not that big a deal ^_^; I'm not like some monolithic presence that only comes out once a year to address a select few . . . I watch my own site, and if you ask a question around here, I'll probably answer =)

Rika-Chan

Oh, and that's so funny and clever what those people did about Rika-Chan. Very clever. I'm crazy about anime but I have enough dignity not to lie about animes I haven't seen. Really, people. :P

Re: Rika-chan

In short: There is no such series as Pretty Combat Communist Rika-chan.

A devious group of people, tired of hearing silly fangirl otaku trying to pass themselves off as experts, made up PCCR, invented a bunch of details (bad guys' names, plot twists, manga volumes, episode titles, origin, sidekick, gay bishounen, etcetera), and cosplayed these supposed characters at cons. And they actually had people telling them "Oh, of course I've seen PCCR! I know all about it!"

And, yeah, Zorin's a vampire. Schrö is a catboy, Doc and the Major are unknown, but everyone else in Millennium is a vampire of some sort.

Oh, can someone also let me in on the Pretty Combat Communist Rika-chan joke? Thanks. *confused and confuzzled*

Zorin

I've seen Hellsing of course. :) I've got a question. In the manga, how was Zorin (the woman with all the tattoos) so strong? Was she a vampire? I'm confused. Thanks to anyone who answers!

What I've seen

Hellsing, Utena, BSSM, and WHR are what I've seen. I'll have to go get Victorian Romance Emma now.
