Once I started searching back to the earlier artists such as Perry, Tubby, Dodd, ET, Scientist, Prince Jammy, etc., I found there are a ton of mediocre dub albums out there. Although this was released in 1982, Aswad did a wonderful job of keeping it out of that realm of techie / synth / casio beat reggae. I love some casio beats too but you know what I'm talking about. I ordered a vinyl copy off GEMM from London. It cost me about $100.00 with shipping to Washington, D.C. but I never once felt like I spent too much money for it. Do youself the favor and check it out.

They may not be as rootsy as Misty in Roots or the Congos but of all the reggae bands that have come and gone I feel they were the most musically talented. Their music and vocals were the most consistent and their rythyms often the hardest. I think Drummie Zeb was probably the best reggae drummer of all time standing up to the likes of Sly Dunbar, Style Scott, Santa Davis, and Carlton Barrett to name just a few. He was also one of the most talented vocals. Even after Brinsley Forde left the band Aswad released fine albums. I hope the three get back together again so I don't have to write in the past tense but can write again in the present tense that here we have a band that is totally awesome. They are probably my favorite reggae band of all times and I have listened to the best. Also, Special thanks to Roger Steffans the greatest reggae promoter of all time.
