looking for input

hi all,

I am currently helping a friend who teaches highschool with a section in his media studies program. The section is on publicly funded media, and he asked me to do a presentation on some public access TV stuff I did in high school and university. Some of the discussion made me curious about a few things.
What is you favorite TV show of all time and why?
Was there any message?
Would anyone care if there was no longer public broadcasting?

RE: looking for input

I think public broadcasting is great for little kids and educational programming. When I lived in the Seattle area, I noticed that they were huge on PBS up there! They even had the coolest PBS store in this really nice mall. At the time, Thomas the Tank Engine was first coming out and Barney was super popular.

The Seattle area PBS peeps also made these really cool aerial movies of different areas of Washington and Oregon that had some dorky music in the background, but also very interesting if you lived in the area or were considering moving or visiting the area.

I really don't ever watch television as it is, but as far as education, I think audio and video are a great learning tool. When they fund projects so that you can see beautiful educational videos of a different culture, such as Ireland or Japan, which a lot of people can't afford to visit by themselves, then that is a nice thing to have in the schools.

Go PBS!

What's the point educating poor kids? Will they ever need any of that information collecting trash or scrubbing toilets?

thanx GUW, interesting. when i watched tv as a kid i never even thought about how ads made the whole thing go. private money really turns a medium to private interests. on the other hand, i'd die without nfl sunday ticket or nba tv lol. and although necessary, some of the public broadcasting is painfully boring. so i'm a bit of a hypocrite i guess.

My favorite television show of all time would have to be Saturday Night Live!
