overprotective parents

kids are stuck indoors because of kidnapping paranoia... when I was a kid I walked everywhere I wanted to go... I walked 3 miles to get to and from school each day. Nowadays kids are shuttled everywhere

RE: overprotective parents

hell yah. And we walked to the store by ourselves, went shopping with friends on the bus downtown when we were 9, and thought nothing of it.

Not sure if the world still had the same amount of creepy people in it years ago, or if we are just hearing more about them now.

RE: overprotective parents

I used to leave at 8 a.m. on my bicycle, go to summer band, and then ride my bike all over town, and then go back home at like 5 p.m. to be home for dinner in the summers when I was middle school age.

My brother and a friend, rode their bikes to my grandparents house which was 30 miles away when they were probably 14 or 15. My kids would be like, yeah, right, like they won't even ride their bikes anywhere...lazy

I hardly ever watched television. We only had like five channels when I was little, and we didn't invest in the fabulous Atari and have hours to spend wasting time playing PONG! I mean, how long could you play PONG anyway?

My kids spend all their time watching television, playing video games, or playing around on the internet.

I was doing something ALL the time. I still hate to sit down and do nothing. I did allow myself to watch 30 minutes of My Fair Brady last night! I spent most of Saturday painting my kitchen a lovely apple green while the kids sat on their butts. I do wonder what they will be like as adults, it is kind of scary...I don't think they will like working too much.

I had to walk 15 MILES to go where ever I wanted to go. If I wanted to go to the neighbors, 15 MILES! School? 15 MILES! Everything was 15 MILES away! Walked everywhere! Is it a coincidence that I was always late for everything?
