Hey Americans!

Hey guys!

Just wondering- what do you guys think of Québec (the Canadian province) and us Québécois??? Do you have any opinions or thoughts on the province, its people, or the issue of separation? Just curious! Merci beaucoup a tout le monde!!!

RE: Hey Americans!

I don't really think about Quebec but I know a lot of people in Canada and it seems most of their opinions are that Quebec should become it's own country and let them fiqure out how to survive on their own. It seems most of Canada hates Quebec more than the US.

I doubt the majority of Americans know that les Quebecois want to seperate. We're just that ignorant.

A majority of Americans couldn't point out Nebraska on a map let alone Quebec.

RE: Hey Americans!

Well, as my name suggests, I'm Irish, and one thing lots of people have noticed about Ireland is that for a long time we have had struggles for having our own country and independence from Britain and stuff, and that for a long time after that was done for the rest of us, we still have Northern Ireland under dispute with lotsa bombs and shootings and nasty stuff like that.

What a few people know about us is that we used to have our own language (Irish or Gaeilge) before all that started. What we now have, in The South (sometimes known as the Republic of Ireland, or Eire), is a bunch of ole crusties working hard to make sure that schoolkids are forced to keep learning Irish, completely against their will. In the past, this lot have been associated with keeping the terrorism going on, and keeping the idea of a Nationalistic "United Ireland" going.

Don't believe a word of it tho. These guys are so ancient and uncool, that what they actually achieve is turning all young people off, not only the language of Irish itself, but also any of these "old-fashioned" ideas of nationalism as well, which lets face it, only tend to cause civil war and dissonance among the people that continue to believe in them.

So I am well in favour of any peeps who are trying to promote minority languages in countries which have different ethnic groups who have trouble getting on. They are well good at distracting indigenous peoples from the serious business of kicking the c**p out of one another :) Best of luck with that!

RE: Hey Americans!

New Orleans is not a province, it is a city. Cajun and Creole are not the same as French. They just hardly bath as much as the French. At least Katrina got most of them cleaned up and washed all the urine off of Bourbon Street.

Joe you are one god damn illiterate son of a bitch. I don't think you spelled a single word right in the mess of a post you made.

If they Quebec Province leaves Canada, then what would they do about the Montreal Canadian Hockey team? Couldn't very well call them the Canadians anymore now could they!

RE: Hey Americans!

i know some people always say that the quebecois hate us or think that they think we're below them. people tend to say that they are very rude to americans. HOWEVER, i visited quebec a few years ago, and i must be honest-- i thought it was very charming there and the people that i encountered were normal in their manners and way they acted towards me. maybe it has something to do with the fact that i can speak french, but i doubt it, because my french is just OK.

RE: Hey Americans!

Personally I'm a big fan of Quebec...well, I've only seen Montreal (and Longueuil, a bit of Laval, and of course a bit of Dorval when I flew in), but I really dug what I saw.

I can see why Quebec might have such a big separatist movement, what with the different language, culture, etc.. On the other hand, it's sorta cool how Canada has so many different cultures (English, Quebecois, Inuit, etc.), and it would be a bit of a shame if Quebec separated.

Plus, an independent Quebec would geographically make things tough on the Maritimes...am I the only one that thinks that?

Anyway, don't let some of these other jackasses make you think all Americans are ignorant about all matters outside U.S. borders, or are functionally-illiterate Canada-haters (who don't even know why they hate Canada).

To the person who asked about what would happen to the Montreal Canadiens if Quebec were no longer a part of Canada: that's easy, they could officially change their name to "Les Habitants" (their current nickname by most French-speaking fans, and is shortened to "the Habs"...the word "habitants" used to refer to the French farmers who originally settled in what is now Quebec).

Finally, the nudie bars in Montreal are truly top notch...I highly recommend everyone check them out.

RE: Hey Americans!

Are there really United Staters who hate Canada? I always thought it was just a running joke.
How could anyone possibly hate Canada or Canadians? It would be like hating Australia.

Anyway, I think it would be a shame for Canada to split up. Like taking a step back in time or something. Isn't the goal of the world today to become united?
