(pardon the pun) Will we go to war with them? How many more wars can we fight before it's WWIII? Now that we are over in Afghanistan and Iraq we cant leave till the jobs done or it's just gonna make things worse than it was to begin with. Who knew that a guy that looks like he won the Asian Elvis impersonator contest had nukes? |

Japan has not been permitted to have much of a military since WWII and both Japan and Korea have agreements for protection with the US. If Kim Jomg-Il attacked South Korea or Japan it would automatically involve the US. It isn't going to happen. North Korea is a paper dragon. They are dirt poor and isolated from the rest of the world. Their one remaining revenue source, drugs, was severly hit so they really have no cash to do much. KJI wants to be something he isn't so he marches out his million man army, shoots a missile or blows up a bomb to get attention back and try to force the US to resume sending aid to them. China is a friend to North Korea so if it came to a conflict, China would probably opt for backing some sort of revolution inside Noorth Korea over attacking the country. There, now you learned something and it didn't suck as much as getting sprayed by a skunk. I probably should have waited until Dragonmaster posted one of his famous solutions that screw up every fact. |

The earthquake could've just been an opportunity to say they had done it so they would get the attention without actually having to do it, if they even could. Oh, and the million man army isn't KJI's army...it's China's army, granted, they are allies, but it's not "his" army. |

Ok, here's the simple solution, this doesnt fix everything, but for anything to change it must be the first step. Get religious fanatics out of power. No governments run by religion, no religious leaders, true separation of church and state is the only way to fix things. If the only way you know right and wrong is ancient books your to ****ed up to be in power. Anyway, I never did understand the nuke thing, why would you even want one of them around? The only reason you even have them is to completely wipe out the opposition, everything and everybody. Isn't the point of war to take control of a country? Organized religions are not about learning right and wrong out of an ancient book. They are about power. They have always been about power. There was a point in history when the pope was the most powerful man. Those power structures exist to control the masses, not to keep them from going to hell. It is the same thing in Islamic countries like Iran. The religious beliefs are used and manipulated for power. What does this have to do with your post? Well, if you understood this, you would understand that you will not get religious fanatics in power because they go hand in hand. In this country there is an active movement to gain power by a group that makes the moral majority look like liberal hippies. Also, since this about North Korea what does religion have to do with any of this? North Korea is officially an atheist country. They have absolute separation of church and state and their country is a disaster on every level. So much for your simple plan. Even if religion did play in, they are Buddist. What the hell is there to understand about nukes? The Germans began the development of nuclear weapons because this little crazy guy named Hitler wanted to take over the world. This led to The Manhattan Project and the US getting the bomb. The Japanese also were developing nuclear weapons to use on us at the same time. This is a fact that most people forget when they are out talking about how horrible we were for bombing Japan. They were damn close to doing the same thing to us. To answer your question, not all war is about taking over your enemies land. You have played too much Risk. Japan started a war with the US in hopes of getting us to negotiate with them and lift severe embargos against them for their attack of China. Why would you want nukes around? So that all you have to do is drop 2 of them and your enemy surrenders. |

Any time your have someone like Kim Jong-Il as a neighbor, you would have concern for security because he is a little crybaby that will do quite a lot to get attention. The meetings though were not about concerns over an attack but how to deal with this situation in the Security Council where China is a permanent member and Japan is a non-permanent member. They need to decide how far they can go before someone (China most likely) vetos. France is a permanent member of the security council if that gives you any idea what a waste of time they really are. They will probably give little Kim a time out without Sesame Street. |
