Someday.

My wife really wants one, so who am I to deny her?

Meh

I love my Playstation 2, but the PS3 is just way out of my budget. I've got the Wii on my Christmas wish list for my inlaws, and if they don't manage to get it for me, I'll run out and get it myself.

All I know is that the Wii is the first console EVER that my wife has expressed an interest in playing at all. I even created a Mii character for her (from the flash hosted here) and that got her even more interested in playing.

I'll get the PS3 in a few years whenever the price comes down to a reasonable level.

Not until it's less than 300

I'm not buying one of these things until they cost less than 300 bucks. I don't care if I have to wait 4 years.

so you understand

bucket: Yah I know how development cycles work. That doesn't change anything I said. The ps3 is 360 generation technology (actually sub360 in the GPU department) with a blu-ray drive added in. Blu-ray is the only significant, "next-gen" tech in the box.

Judging from the games that are available at launch, I would say it's 100% safe to assume they wouldn't have had any quality titles available if they tried to launch this thing (sans blu-ray) a year ago.

I give you the linux development angle and admit that it is a neat and novel idea, but is that going to sell $600 consoles? It also remains to be seen just how open it will be.

Interesting Comparison...

I think it's great how right now nearly half the ppl polled don't ever intend to buy the PS3, while the Wii, which is obviously less of a "gamers machine" is touting almost a 60% desire to buy at launch from (based on the purpose of this site anyway) relatively hard core gamers. Methinks Sony has a little reconsidering to do...

meh

I am going to try and get one to sell on ebay. Can't turn down cash + I like to wait and hang out with the people. However I won't be buying one for myself until next xmas at earliest or whenever I get an HDTV. My 360 and Wii will keep me more than occupied when I am not doing immense loads of homework.

Reselling

Pssh. I don't see any problem with reselling it on Ebay. Free market economics dictates that if there is someone out there stupid / desperate enough to buy at $1000+, then that's their fault.

Don't blame the resellers. Blame the people that drive the prices up because little Johnny has to have a PS3 for Christmas.

Sarge out.

I love how people call the ps3 "the most advanced console ever", when it's using a CPU and GPU that were designed over a year ago.

As opposed to... what? Last week? People generally like to finalize specs BEFORE going into production. And until recently with the 360 addon, PS3 was the only console pushing new tech.

I know it must sting to realize that you are paying for a console that, specs wise, could have been released last year, but was held up because Sony's future depends on Blu-ray. Oh, that and the fact that they would have had no games.

Well, there's Linux, for one. Homebrew development, which I very much look forward to. And the thing about "no games" is not actually a "fact".

I still haven't seen a game that I'm excited to play either.

That's your own problem.

PS 3???

the price and availibility of this product is really hurting Sony. I think they messed up this launch big time and would have been better off waiting until spring torelaese it when they have a bunch of games.

they should have released it in Japan first and then brought it over here when they had enough supply to meet the demand.

in terns of the games looking better on a PS3, that is still to be decided. I have not seen an HD screen with a PS3 game playing on it yet. and that is when the real comparison is made.

I have been playing my 360 for almost ayear on an HD screen and I am very impressed.

Gears of War is such a great feat for Next Gen consoles.

this all comes from somebody who WAS a sony Fanboy until he got his 360 in jan of 2006

So lets be fair not alot of people are goign to want a PS3, a lot of children are going to wish and dream they got one, and be very dissapointed when santa doesnt bring them one, or hannukah harry, or Kwanza Kurt....

Wow

These results really shock me!

I am usually a very early adopter for game systems, and I thought I was the only one who would be skipping a system for the first time. Clearly I am not. I just don't think the system is worth the BS of trying to get one. SO FEW consoles, SUCH A HIGH price, I just don't think it's worth it.

Plus with all the scumbags just buying it to resell it - we need to send a message that it isn't acceptable and not bid on them. If it weren't for all of those jerks, there would be more for actual people who want the systems.

As much as I hate to admit it, Sony is blowing it. I don't think the system will fail, I just don't think it's worth it right now, and I am as hardcore a fan of new systems as someone can be. Technically, it's a tremendous deal price-wise for what is included, it's just the price when added with the hassle of trying to get one.

No Soul

Well, an extra $600 bucks made by selling it on eBay buys me an awful lot of 360 games. =)

YAY!

HotRod has no soul! Fantastic! The idea of a gaming console is to bring entertainment to your life. Not to sell it. Selling it on ebay is just ****ing stupid, no matter what they're giving you.
