I wish we could just chalk it all up to insanity or stupidity, but there's something far more sinister going on. The mainstream press keeps talking about the "failure" and the "blunder" of the Bush Administration's Iraq policy, when in fact there was never any intention of winning, or even having it go smoothly. The president's golf buddies at Halliburton and Bechtel are making a huge amount of money. I mean HUGE. They are raking in hundreds of billions of taxpayer dollars, and not dollars that actually exist right now, but dollars that your children, your grandchildren, your great-grandchildren, and their great-grandchildren will be handing over, in larger and larger sums, to pay off the insanely massive foreign debt this "war" is running up. There is no real incentive for anyone in charge to change anything. They're making an absolute killing, and they want to continue to make a killing. They own both sides of the aisle in Congress, so don't get your hopes up now that the Democrats have won a slim majority in both houses. |
