Keep it real, "people! Don't act like animals!!!

I had an entry in the BeatlieBoys Mashup song contest back in, what was it, '05? Came in fourth in the first vote and third place in the hackproof run-off vote, which I was quite happy with considering the quality of the competition. Didn't win anything but more importantly had a blast doing it, just like I fun entering my pets (#54 Goliath and Princess) in this contest- although they (the dogs) were a tad less than thrilled.

My point here- and I do have a point- is that some things never change. Then, as now, some people are always going to go overboard and, as tOdd says, mess things up for everybody else. Not to mention voting like a bazillion times for themselves (allegedly). Therefore, anybody who got more than a handful of votes, myself included, was eventually accused of cheating by some sad individual with an ax to grind until tOdd had to set up a secure runoff vote to figure it all out. Sorta like a Commie witch hunt, but without the mirth. Gee, what "fun"!

I enjoyed looking at ALL the pictures,(not just my own) and all made me smile, and some made me laugh out loud. Call me a sentimental animal lover, but just knowing that some of these pets were rescued, and assuming that ALL of them are loved by you, their owners / humans / roommates, made me feel real good about humanity, etc. Then I came over to the message board, and reading some of these posts made me feel real sad for the humans who wrote them.

Tell you what: if you DID cheat or hack the vote, (and I'm not saying anybody did), grab your dog/cat/ gator/roommate/ tarantula or whatever, look into his/her/it's eyes, and ask him/her/it if it was worth it. I think they would rather have you be playing with them, (well, maybe not the tarantula) than spending time talking trash about somebody else's pet.

Happy Holidays, Everybody!!! Good luck to all!!! Give your pet a hug today!!! (Again, maybe not the tarantula- sorry, tarantula peeps.)

Oh, and by the way, (for the drama queens and kings here), the smaller of my two dogs, Goliath, died from eating toxic holly berries (we suspect) after this picture was taken. I entered it anyway, as a farewell tribute to him. We all miss him like the dickens, but life does go on somehow. To all those who have lost a pet, we know what you're going through.

sorry to hear about Goliath. they are both cute dogs. i still think the contest (as well as others) is lots of fun despite any overvoting. everyone is entitled to their opinion and if they didn't express it...there wouldn't be a message board...or contest...or daily what's ups...

RE: Keep it real, "people! Don't act like animals!!!

I'm right there with ya, pet owner. The contestomundos are a lot of fun; that's why I did this one again. And everybody's entitled to their opinion, it's just that when people talk all nasty and rude while expressing them it gets to be a bit much.

Take away my daily "What's Happening!", Pictures Of The Week or tOdd's Movie Reviews????? Over my dead body!!!

Thanks for the condolences about Goliath, although I didn't mention that for the "sympathy vote". He was a very special dog to us, as I know your pets are to all of you. He was born with a problem in one of his back legs such that he couldn't straighten it out, and as a result kind of hopped around on three legs. Never was a problem for him; in fact the breeder said he walked before the others in his litter (probably because it was easier to figure out how to work 3 legs instead of 4.) But he could outrun us or any of the other dogs we had, and had a real sweet disposition. Spent much time on our laps whenever we watched TV; a great comfort during the days following 9/11. His barking could actually be heard on the song I entered into the song contest I mentioned. I sometimes called him "Ten pounds of cute in a five pound bag". He was only 6 when he died... way too soon.

RE: Keep it real, "people! Don't act like animals!!!

Sorry to hear about Goliath! I know what you're going through. I've entered Zoe or Maxie (or both) every year since this contest started. Zoe was "green dog" which spurred a lot of controversy in the first contest. Zoe passed away 2 years ago at the age of 11, and Maxie passed away suddenly in October only one month before her 5th birthday. She had very aggressive lymphoma of her liver and spleen, and died from internal bleeding when her liver split from the tumor. It was devastating losing her since she didn't even act sick until the last day. The vet said she had only had the cancer for about a week, it was that aggressive. It is so hard to lose a dog that young, I really feel for you. We just got Sophie #58 a month ago, and everyday I just wish I had my Maxie back. Don't get me wrong, I love Sophie and she's a great pup, but she has very big paws to fill!

Anyway, when we entered the contest we knew we wouldn't win, but we just love to see our dogs and everyone else's on the internet. It's a fun contest and I wish the voting discrepencies wouldn't occur every year. Good luck to you dealing with your loss. My sincere condolensces.

RE: RE: Keep it real, "people! Don't act like animals!!!

Thanks, Sophie's Mom. Sophie's a real cutie too!
She appears to be a size I'd call a "real dog". Goliath was "lap dog" size- I never wanted a small dog like that until we got him (as a companion to an older, somewhat larger dog who was aggresive towards anything larger than herself), but after a few months, we couldn't imagine NOT having him.

After he died, we were gonna wait because we were in such a shock, but Princess, the other #54 dog, was completely lost without him, so I buried him in the morning, showered and drove a few hours with my wife to pick up his "replacement", a charcoal colored Maltese-poodle mix. We named him Samson.
"Replacement" is in quotes because as you're aware, you can't really "replace" a pet. Each one really does have their own personality, although we have caught ourselves calling Samson Goliath. I guess that's part of the grieving process.

My condolences to you guys on losing both your dogs. I'll bet that having Sophie around helps a lot.

Anyway, Samson's got his "appointment" with the vet tonight- he just discovered girls, and Princess is... a girl dog. He's been going a little nuts (no pun intended) the last few days, so we need to turn the volume control way down on the stereo system of Samson's manhood. If you catch my drift.

I know what you mean, we still call Sophie "Maxie" all the time by accident. We're getting better though. We're so excited, Sophie had her last vaccination on Friday so today we get to take her to the dog park for the first time! I hope Sampson is recovering well.

RE: Keep it real, "people! Don't act like animals!!!

Thanks, yes he is, actually... much more than I would if the same thing happened to me!!! He was pretty zonked out the first day (Saturday) but today he's got a little more pep; he's walking with a bounce in his step.

Hard to do when you've got one of those satellite dish thingies around your head (to keep him from getting at the stitches)!

Princess is quite relieved with the change.
