Screw him! What's the tip for? Getting the pizza there on time? He's supposed to do that anyway. Tips are for rewarding someone for a certain level of service... if a waitress is going out of her way and doing that little bit extra that she doesn't have to do I'll tip her 25%!!What about the pizza guy? What does he do? Nothing!! Forget it!!

RE: Zero!

I think I know someone who regularly gets spit topping on their pizza.

Compensation for the job of pizza delivery guy is based on the fact that they get tips. By not giving them any tip, you are essentially withholding part of their paycheck for yourself.

Also, if the tip is based on their performance, they automatically have an incentive to do a great job instead of just phoning it in.

If you don't like it that way, and want our cultural expectations to change, stiffing the poor working guy is not a very effective way of accomplishing that goal. All you're doing is punishing some poor, inocent guy who just needs to earn some money.

Shame on you.

In addition, to the top poster, TIPS stands for "to insure proper service". Proper, as in not exceptional or above and beyond. If you cannot afford the tip, you cannot afford the pizza. Heat up some ramen.

RE: Zero!

I deliver pizzas. Drivers make less than minimum wage, pay for their own gas, and our "gas compensation" isn't near enough to cover expenses. We need oil changes monthly, brakes twice a year, along with all the many other automotive repairs that will inevitably be required. If people didn't tip, you'd be picking up your pizza. It honestly costs a driver more money than he makes to drive a day of delivery and not be tipped.

RE: Zero!

To the guy who said "McDonalds is hiring" -- that is exactly my point. If nobody tips, nobody will drive delivery for the low wages. If everyone who delivers quits and gets a job elsewhere, you have to get your fat ass off the couch and pick up your pizza.

i always get off my ass and get my own pizza. i have seen the pizza delivery guys and i wouldn't leave them alone with my garbage let alone trust them with my food. God only knows how many bodily fluids end up on the pizzas they deliver.

RE: Zero!

TIP stands for to insure promptness. You don't leave someone a tips, you leave someone a tip. You only add the S when you're pluralizing it.

RE: Zero!

Delivery drivers are undoubtedly thankful that you pick up your own pizza. It's cheaper for you anyways. If all people who had a low view of drivers picked up their pizza the world would be a better place.

RE: Zero!

In any kind of customer service job, you'll run into all kinds of people. You'll find people who think the way to change our culture of tipping service people is to punish the poorest person involved: The server. And you'll find people who apparently have so much pain in their lives that they enjoy handing you money that's been in their ass.

And then we wonder why it's so hard to get good customer service these days. Well, it's because it's so hard to find good customers.

The lesson here is that if you're not a massocist, don't get into customer service. We are litterally surrounded by jerks who want to drag-down customer service workers to their own pathetic level. And those jerks are relentless. Their patheticness knows no bounds.

But if you must stay in customer service, as long as they're dragging you down, you might as well give it back to them. Remember them, and spit on their pizzas. Make their lives even more misserable than it already is. Give them back exactly what they give you. But please try to remember that I'm not one of them. I have the decency to tip.
