Sadly, the only way to fix things now may be to re-start the war. Mass sending of troops may be the only way to fix things, eventually. There's a reason we used the bomb instead of invading Japan, same thing goes here. You cant fight against their religion and expect it to go easy, or by taking a few cities your going to hold a whole country. Anyway, whenever I try and sound intelligent I get lots of flack here, so I'm gonna quit...for now. We'll see once I hear Bush's address tonight. |

All Saddam did was kill people who threatened his government. That's what we are going to do except we're going to kill even more people. Saddam never was a threat to anybody. He just wanted to stay in power. He attacked Kuwait for a good reason but nobody talks about that! They talk like he just decided to pick on Kuwait because he was evil. When the truth is Kuwait was stealing oil from underneath Iraq and Saddam caught them !!!!! Top secret, WHY! Saddam was a great leader for a country that needs to live with extreme discipline. Most uneducated Arabs are crazy and violent. Using gas isn't nice but what's the difference really when you're murdering somebody? As for removing a dictator there are plenty of other countries that would honestly be happy to be liberated, but those countries have no oil. |

If it was you or your family that was killed by his regime I doubt you would be so cavalier about his crimes. It is plain wrong to say he was never a threat to anyone. He was not a threat to anyone in the US but he damn sure was a threat to Kurds and Shiites. Kuwait's slant drilling was not top secret. It is a well known fact. The dispute was long standing and the Arab league had been involved in trying to end it. Never the less, the dispute could have been settled in other ways and did not justify the invasion. He was evil. He tortured and murdered tens of thousands of people. He was never a great leader any more than Hitler was a great leader because he ended the run away inflation in Pre-WWII Germany. The fact that Saddam was an evil son of a bitch doesn't mean the Bush administration is doing good. The war was started on false claims made that they had WMD's hidden, complete with satellite photos showing exactly where they were. The public was told that the war would only cost between $10 and $100 billion dollars. Lawrence Lindsay stated it would be between $100 and $200 billion at that time and was fired for it. The current price tag is $400 billion and growing. That is enough to pay for everyone's gas for an entire year or enough to give everyone in the world $61.30. To rebuild the Iraqi infrastructure, contracts were clearly awarded to friends of the administration or in Cheney's case, a company that he still holds stock in. They didn't make any attempt to even hide the fact. This administration has extreme hubris in everything they do. Tonight the president will go on TV and tell the public he will continue to do what he wants despite 70% opposition by the public and calls by the democrats and many republicans in congress to end the insanity. This administration is responsible for the death of innocent people on a level of Saddam's regime, they continue to do whatever they want (to hell with anyone that doesn't like it), and uses the threat of terrorism as a scare tactic to get more and more power over it's people. There is nothing good about this administration. There are many countries that have terrible dictators that are equal or worse than Saddam and yes we do not get involved because it is not to our benefit. We basically ignore the genocide that takes place in Africa. We treat Kim Jong-il with kid gloves. Even when Poh Pot was slaughtering millions of his people we ignored it because we didn't need anything from Cambodia. Dragonmaster, you have never said anything that has ever sounded even remotely intelligent. Your argument is flawed. The atomic bombs were dropped just as much for the fact that Japan was very near completing their own atomic bombs as it was for preventing an invasion of Japan. Religion is not the issue. Yes, the warring factions are Sunni vs. Shiites but the issue for the US is it is a civil war. We are not fighting their religion. Nothing but trouble can come to an invading force trying to get in the middle of this mess and 20K more troops will not make a difference for the better. |
