That's a lot of people who would own a gun... Scary!

RE: Guns

Be afraid of the person holding them. They are harmless by themselves.

RE: Guns

the thing i'd be most concerned about with guns in the home is kids getting hold of them. maybe i wouldn't be so worried about young kids but moreso about teenagers.

i know there are tricks (ie hiding bullets and the gun in different places, locking them up etc.) to keep guns away from kids but teenagers usually aren't stupid about where things are in their house and can be nosy.

i don't have kids of my own and i probably won't for a good while, but there were too many "then he found his dad's gun and shot himself" tragedies when i was in high school. i mean, sure, if a person wants to kill themselves they're going to find a means, but teenagers can be so impulsive and studies show that most teenage males that commit suicide didn't give any warning or sign that they were that depressed. i think a gun just makes suicide more attainable and realistic for kids like that. and i guess that is what creates my fear of having a gun in my home when i do have kids.

RE: Guns

I hope you don't have kids because your kids would think about suicide a lot.

RE: RE: Guns

People who are scared of guns have no idea what they are scared about. If you are worried about your kids, teach them to use one. If they have respect for the guns, it's not a problem. If they want to kill themselves, it's not the gun's fault anyway. Someone already pointed out that guns don't kill people by themselves.

RE: Guns

i see what you'r saying, nasty, but in my opinion i think having a gun around a depressed person is a temptation that could eventually end in tragedy.

i do not judge or blame people that do own guns, even when they have children, if they treat them responsibly. i can definitely see why some people would want them for protection or for leisure (target practice or what have you). if i lived in a crime-ridden area (which would probably mean i wouldn't be able to afford an alarm system, to boot) i would probably own one myself for protection.

i used to carry around knives and mace in HS and college for protection, so i'm not against bearing arms or anything like that. i still bring the mace almost everywhere.

RE: RE: Guns

Honestly, it's stupid people you have to worry about with guns. I was raised with guns all around me and when it was legal for me to take the hunter's saftey test I passed with flying colors. I dont know if it's just me, but I dont fit the steryotype of "dangerous teenager with a gun". I think, also, that everyone on the shotgun and rifle teams we have here would agree.

RE: RE: Guns

there's a difference between wanting to own and gun and wanting to go on a killing spree.. Its not scary.
