Canada should let them go independent, then build a wall around them and charge tolls for all vehicles entering or exiting. See how they like that. The very few people I encountered who didn't speak English did what they could to communicate with me, in a totally friendly way (my French is quite rusty). Plus, in my experience, Montreal is crawling with hot, friendly people...I've been there a few times, and have a lot of friends from there, and have yet to encounter the stereotypical snooty, wannabe-French, rude person. The chip-on-shoulder, rude, ignorant, generalizing Quebec-hater, on the other hand...I've run into a few of those. |

I live in Québec, and trust me, there is SO much more culture here than down south. We speak Québécois, not Parisian French. I know that it's hard for you to understand, but they are different. Just like British English is different from Canadian English. Different, not wrong. I guess in the states different=wrong automatically. |

I've lived in both Montreal and Toronto for years and I can tell you right now that the whole concept of mutual intolerance from a group of canadians to another is based on some now insignificant historical events from hundreds of years ago. Most more informed individuals will find that this hatred is now nothing more than an illusion supported by a minority of ignorant people, like a lot of other things. If you're gonna complain about something, then complain about an actual problem that actually affects you. At the very least, get you facts straight. |

I can not think of a single person that I know that is not disgusted by just mentioning Quebec. You are kidding yourself if you think it is a minority view. If anything, this idea of mutual love between Quebec and the rest of us is the illusion. Maybe it seems that way in your little circle of Quebec sympathizers but the rest of us want them to form their own country because they give Canada a bad name. We can go back to being a one language country and they can stand around wondering how they are going to get attention for there tantrums now. |
