Hymietown

I think Imus's punishment should be exactly the same as "Rev." Jesse Jackson's was for publicly calling Jews "Hymies" and New York "Hymietown" back in 1984.

Remember what that was? No? Interesting... because it was NOTHING. NADA. ZERO. ZIP.

Can someone explain THAT one to me??? I'm not a fan of either gentleman, and I'm neither Black nor Jewish, AND I'm NOT condoning racist comments, but it sure smells like hypocrisy and a double standard to me.

One guy says something racist and it's swept under the rug while he carries on, another guy says something racist and his career is destroyed in a matter of hours. Why?

Because video killed the radio star?

I don;t believe it was entirely necessary to start a new thread...I think this has already been covered.

RE: Hymietown

It was? Really? Can you show me where? Because I looked, and couldn't find any reference to Jackson's Hymietown comment and the free pass he got from the media for it. Remember we're looking for hypocrisy and double standards that go both ways, both cause AND effect.

My point is that both men said something equally bad, and one is still with us and the other will not be.

Or, are you just more interested in KEEPING Jackson's comments buried? Just curious...

That other blank name idiot has no business telling you when you can and can't start a new topic so he can fuck off.

I remember this and it is a good call on your part. I was thinking that it is funny how Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson are always right there turning molehills into mountains all the while, conveniently forgetting about their skeletons (and mistresses) in the closet.

RE: RE: Hymietown

Not to mention children out of wedlock for the "Rev.", and being supported by hate-filled bigots like Louis Farrahkan (I'm not sure of the spelling.) But those are topics for another post.

My point is that we're all human and we screw up. Apparently, some of us are more worthy of forgiveness than others.

RE: Hymietown

It's not to this point yet, but in the near future it will be. Culture and feelings towards certain words have changed big-time, and soon it will be impossible to compare what everyone said about Rev.'s comments with Jewish people to what Imus said with Black people. Who knows how the public will react when something like this happens in 30 years (if we aren't all underwater).
