| Posted By: GirlUWant Posted On: May 4, 2007 Views: 743 | Ants on the Sixth floor?! Okay, I just killed an ant. It was on my desk. I work on the sixth floor of a ten story building. I just squished him to death, and then I thought, wow, I wonder how long it took an ant to get to the sixth floor...like, did he take the elevator, did he climb up six flights of stairs, how long did he take to do that? Has he been working up the floors for weeks, months, etc...and then I just kill him...maybe he was going for an ant world record like how fast he could get to the tenth floor in record time...oh well...sorry little ant...I hope that you aren't leaving behind like 100 little ant children that are going to starve to death on the third floor...........(sigh) |

Over the different ant generations the colonies of ants slowly moved up the building and the rest of the clan most likely lived near by. Do take into acount that the ants can go up through and on the walls and the amount of ground covered to get to the 6th floor for them is far less than the amount required for you considering the stairs. I am also assuming the ant has not discovered the elevator's capability nor cpmprehended how to function it. Ants will continue to move to different locations through the seasons incuding going further up as long as thier is ether a need (avoid high waters and predators) or a source of food such as all of you crumb leaving workers. It would not be uncommon to find ants at a much higher elevation as long as no extraordinary measures were taken to ward them off and a source of sustinence was contained within. |

Reminds me of the commercial with the - I'm guessing Buddhist- monk who sneezes into the tissue, then spots the writing on the bos that says "KILLS 99.9% OF BACTERIA" and he's all guilty-looking.
