Gone baby gone

Is it wrong to agree that Adventures in Babysitting should be somewhere in consideration? Will my membership be revoked? Elisabeth Shue is too gorgeous to ignore.

no way

I agree with previous poster who said that the other films could have been set in other cities, but it's the Blues Brothers that has to be set in Chicago!

Untouchables

"You should try babysitting..."

No, I'm not trying to be funny (or cool and ironic), but I really think that Adventures in Babysitting is a great Chicago movie. It doesn't try to pretty up the city, but has an obvious affection for it; and it doesn't necessarily show all the famous locations, but is still undeniably of its place (even if some of it was apparently shot in Toronto...).
It's the first movie I think of when driving into Chicago at night - plus, it's kinda funny and kinda sweet. And where else could that scene in the blues bar have taken place?

chicago

While the other films really do capture the feel of Chicago, the only one that could not possibly take place in any other city is the Untouchables.

Think about it, Farris could have just as easily had them going to fenway with Cameron in a bobby Orr jersey. The blues brother could have taken place in NY or Detroit without losing too much.

Only the Untouchables deals with the history of Chicago in conjunction with the feel of what its like to be in Chicago. And who can forget the famous, "that's the Chicago way" speech.

Running Scared

For Running Scared not to be on the poll list is a gross oversight. Not only is it a fun movie and one of my personal favorites, but it's just Chicago from beginning to end.

Batman Begins!

OK, it doesn't "take place" in Chicago, but for some reason, I always think of Chi town with it. Maybe its because the new Batman has such a unique look because it was filmed on location and not totally on a soundstage... but of the films listed, I'll go The Untouchables (when DePalma was good...)

Not a Chi-town resident, but I love to visit

I would have gone with High Fidelity, except the book had it originally set in London, so I have to take off a couple points for it being a transplant. Ultimately I decided on The Fugitive, if only for the entertaining stray observations by the U.S. Marshals. When you have scenes revolving around what an elevated train sounds like and why the Chicago River can't be blue all year if they can turn it green on St. Patrick's day, you've got the local color down (no pun intended).

ultimate chigago film

Ok, reserve judgment, but I have to say "Continental Divide." I realize that we only spend a few scenes in Chicago at the front and back end of the film, but it is enough to give us a flavor of the city that Belushi's character has coarsing thru his very clogged arteries. He's the ultimate Chicago guy - a sportswriter for the losingest baseball club in history who can't hike 50 feet without losing consciousness, which he actually does when he lights up halfway up the trail, if memory serves. That, combined with the essence of John Belushi, THE Chicago guy, make this the ultimate Chicago film to my mind. By the way, Maddy Van Ballgame, you rock, my friend. Sam, let's keep him.

Tough choice

I ended up choosing Ferris Bueller's Day Off because everyone knows that takes place in Chicago. I almost put High Fidelity though because the movie still feels like it's in Chicago without being too obvious. You might not know it is in Chicago unless you've actually been there.
