Getting Grinchy

Doesn't matter what I do. I'll be alone again on Christmas Morning. Not even going to try this year and fool myself into believing that something is going to happen. It just doesn't. Done the whole get involved with church thing, that doens't work. Get out the lights, the tree and in with all those who celebrate, still no invites to anything, year after year after year. Why doee the exact opposite of what this season means happen to me. I really need that bridge over troubled waters to come and be there. Just standing at the other side of the edge and look across. Even praying doesn't work. So here on this edge I am. Hope you all have a merry christmass over there. Some of us are over here wanting to be there but there is no way to get there. Just don't rub it in our faces this year. that would be nice.

RE: RE: Getting Grinchy

Hey Dip****, spend a little time learning something before opening your mouth. First off, holidays have nothing to do with separation of church and state. Second, Christmas does not have Christian origins. That should be obvious from the decorated evergreens and all the fake snow. Christmas is just a pagan winter festival. Jesus was actually born around April 10th but the church hijacked the pagan holiday (just like Easter).

So how about you let the Christians celebrate how they want and then you celebrate how you want. For those of us that aren't a member of that cult, we just celebrate it as a good time to be with family and to enjoy giving. If you weren't such a selfish asshole you might have some friends and not sitting home alone downloading holiday porn. Prick.

"First off, holidays have nothing to do with separation of church and state."

Learn how to read. I was talking about Christmas, not holidays in general. It's the only religious holiday observed by the government.

"Christmas does not have Christian origins."

You're going to have a hard time convincing anyone today it's not a Christian holiday, regardless of its origins.

"I was talking about Christmas, not holidays in general"

Last time I checked, Christmas IS a holiday so the statement stands. This like you saying poodles can fly, then me saying dogs can't fly and you replying that you were talking about poodles, not dogs.

"You're going to have a hard time convincing anyone today it's not a Christian holiday, regardless of its origins."

I don't need to convince anyone. Facts are facts. The holiday existed long before the Church tacked on the Jesus birthday party. Most people view the holiday for what it is. It still comes back to you not having any friends so you have to lash out.

RE: RE: Getting Grinchy

Let me make it painfully simple so even you can understand:

Christmas is a religious holiday.

The government observes Christmas.

The government observes a religious holiday.

The very first sentence in the Bill of Rights begins with:

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof;"

The observation of Christmas by the government is a violation of our First Amendment rights. Since you have always partaken in the Christmas holiday, you are naturally biased toward it, as are most people in this country.

RE: Getting Grinchy

(probably shouldn't get involved...ahh, what the hell)

It was Yule before christmas, and I'm sure it was called something else before that. All it is now is a way to keep the economy going. I mean come on, for half the year all you hear about is how stores are hoping for a good holiday season. It's all just money now...

Anyway, most christion holidays are taken from us Pagans. Big deal, call it whatever you wish.

Try www.witchvox.com for some more info.
(on the homepage put your mouse over info {in the upper middle of the page} then go down to holidays...)

RE: Getting Grinchy

If it's an issue of weathr or not the government is bias toward one religion or another, I mean, come on people. You put your hand on the bible in court(do people still do that?), "under god" in the pledge assuming we all follow the christion faith, government buildings are closed on Sunday, and even our president has said that he believes god put him in office...what usually happens when a government leader claims the divine? All well...everybody will just accept it...all well, forgive the ramblings of a man born in the wrong time.

RE: Getting Grinchy

Geez, gremlin, lighten up. If you feel you really have a hold on what the day is and should or should not be, does that really make you better than everyone else? I think that it is weird how christmas is such a different holiday to so many people but for goodness sakes at the very least it is good to get a day off. Granted, all of the christmas music/sales/commercials/programming etc can be annoying but that's no reason to get snippy. And by the way, you can call any religion a cult that you want to but whether or not YOU agree there is something to be said for being respectful of others instead of arrogant. We can't all be as enlightened as you are.

RE: Getting Grinchy

By the way - something scroogy - I'm sorry you will be alone on christmas. that's the worst part about the holidays but remember you are not the only one. All of the TV shows & everything shove it down your throat that you are a loser if you are alone on Christmas just like Valentine's day but that doesn't make it so. I hope something works out for you this time.

RE: RE: Getting Grinchy

Gremlin, it is clear you are working in front of a deep fryer and not studying law.

Nutjobs like yourself have already tried to make that claim and the U.S. Supreme Court has ruled very clearly that the holidays such as Christmas and Good Friday are not unconstitutional. I know this will come as a shock to you but when the constitution was written, they didn't have you personally in mind.

So you are a miserable angry loser with no life and no friends. Do you really think everyone should change for you? If you don't like Christmas, don't celebrate it. Turn the TV off and spend some time thinking about how you became such a selfish prick.

"Since you have always partaken in the Christmas holiday, you are naturally biased toward it, as are most people in this country."

If you spent any time at all paying attention in U.S. History you would understand how your comment here supports the idea of a Christmas holiday more than any other.

I am not Christian and I have a huge ass tree in my living room. I bought lots of presents for people. I'll make a bunch of good food. It will be a great time as always. None of it will be because I believe that a virgin gave birth to a blond haired blue eyed baby in the Mideast. Christmas is whatever you make it. If you want to make yours full of misery and hate, fine. Just keep it to yourself and stop trying to claim everyone else's good time is violating your rights.

Dragonmaster, the festival was known as Saturnalia before it was Yule. Also, religious references such as the term "under god" were ruled to represent the countries history and majority belief in a higher power. the term "God" does not imply any specific religion. I believe Justices O'Connor and Burger have written opinions on this.
