| Posted By: JJGemini Posted On: Feb 2, 2008 Views: 1105 | Ostracized Each year it's a struggle to figure out what makes movies appealing to the masses. The best movies of the year seem to be some kind of strange hybrid between the critics in their ivory towers where no real life exists and the lowest common denominator where no real life should exist. So it's somewhere between the new Jane Austen movie and a new Jackass sequel. 2007 proved no different. My favourite films of the year were "Gone Baby Gone", "Moliere", "The Hoax", "La Vie en Rose", and "Talk To Me". Not only did none of these movies get nominated for best picture... there is barely a mention of them (except for "La Vie En Rose"). Maybe I'm in the minority, here, but "No Country For Old Men" is better than "Gone Baby Gone"? Johnny Depp's performance is better than Fabrice Luchini? "There Will Be Blood" is a better script than "The Hoax"? Unbelievable. I guess I should count myself lucky that I do get to see movies that I enjoy. But sometimes I feel like I'm living on another planet. |
| Posted By: www.shaunhkellyphoto.com Posted On: Jan 31, 2008 Views: 1121 | a toss up It's a close race between No Country for Old Men & There Will Be Blood. So I settled it this way: Best Movie - There Will Be Blood, Best Director - Paul Thomas Anderson, Best Screenplay - The Coen Brothers, Best Lead Actor - Daniel Day Lewis, Best Supporting Actor - Javier Bardem (although Paul Dano is a very very close second and I wouldn't be disappointed to see him win), and since No Country for Old Men has no score, Jonny Greenwood DEFINITELY gets Best Score (that was the most accurately scored movie I might have ever seen). That's my opinion, I am sure there are others. And of course I haven't seen all the movies out there nominated so my opinion is biased. |
