ESOA

SAP's new direction IS ESOA (Enterprise/Enhanced your choice at this point) that will someday take the place of SAP NetWeaver technology, just as NetWeaver took over "client-server" technology of R/3.

Just as many things change, NOT EVERYTHING changed when NetWeaver replaced R/3. SAP is not the first Software company to embrace this technology, but it is in the vangard. My guess is that it will take 3-5 years before it is "commonly accepted" by SAP Customers, and 5-7 years before it is SAP's mainline product platform. I know that this is not what SAP sales is trrying to preach, but it is not yet ready for "prime time", but it WILL arrive and it bears much monitoringas a future direction that will have significant impact on ALL SAP involved entities.

SAP and SOA

SAP is the only Software company to provide a full SOA methology, governance AND software components as the technical plattform.

Therefor SAP not only has a SOA strategy, or a single product to support a SOA, like most other software vendors do, but is the only company to provide their customers with a holistic approach to SOA.

By the way, SAP calls SOA ESOA - Enterprise Service Oriented Architecture. This is because, for SAP, SOA is not only a bunch of Web Services but an integral part for adaptible business solutions.
