| Entertainment vs Art
I still think that Broadway would work provided it has at least music
that is popularly well known (e.g., Grease) or is a spectacular "show."
Momma Mia had the music. Phantom has the spectacle. Cats, Grease, Lion
King would seem to have one or the other or both and might do well.
You also can't have a boring plot or a story so complicated that a
half-drunk audience can't follow. People go to Vegas to be entertained
by artists. People go to New York to see artistic entertainment. There's
a difference.

| B'way Shows
I tend to think that big Broadway musicals are not a good mix for Las
Vegas; reviews/variety shows probably work better (and I LIKE broadway
shows). One of the differences is the experience itself of going to the
theatre in NY (or elsewhere). I've seen Starlight Express, Avenue Q and
Night at the Opera (Tribute to Queen) in LV, but the experience of going
to a showroom is not the same as a theatre (even when it pretends to
be). What's really interesting is that I've seen one of the Cirque
shows (Allegria) in a theatre rather than a showroom, and it didn't work
there as well as Cirque shows do in a showroom.
Go figure!
