Posted By: Robert Zimmerman Posted On: Jun 7, 2008 Views: 1523 | RGH Hey RGH, they added that intro after we complained. Originally they never mentioned him. And yes Bob Dylan did hail from MN even tho he hit it big in NYC. I like how Paste tried to cover up their goof with that crappy explanation. |
Posted By: Jame Gumb Posted On: Jun 6, 2008 Views: 1534 | Not even a debate Although not a fan, Prince is far and away the easy choice hear. 2nd place is where you can have a discussion. oh yeah, and my write in.....eatmycock |
Posted By: Train Posted On: Jun 6, 2008 Views: 1220 | venting I understand the Dylan/NYC thing, I just think his MN roots should be appreciated. That said, I agree about Soul Asylum. True, they fell off after the "sell-out" of Grave Dancers Union, but they were still an influential band. Also, if you bother to check them out (still touring), they're one hell of a live band. Also, I second the motion on no mention of The Suburbs, a travesty. Shouldn't The Hold Steady be treated like Dylan (no comparison of greatness intended) as they tout themselves as a Brooklyn, NY band? |
Posted By: RGH Posted On: Jun 6, 2008 Views: 1219 | Minny Poll If you dingleberries had bothered to read the intro to the poll, you'd have seen that Dylan was left off due to being an obvious choice and the fact that he "made his name in New York." Good lawd. Now, quit your holier-than-now BS and remember how great Soul Asylum was for 3/4 of their career! One bloody percent?! It's easy to argue Prince, Replacements, and even Husker Du are more deserving, but no way should they be pulling up the rear! |
Posted By: james f Posted On: Jun 5, 2008 Views: 1238 | How could we forget this obscure hardly-known band and you will of course recall The Tight Jeans, who were on Thick Glasses Records, and who were discovered by The Beards in the late eighties. What about them, Paste?? WHAT ABOUT THEM?? |
Posted By: Cody Posted On: Jun 5, 2008 Views: 1230 | Prince is a cinch for me Hmm. The Hold Steady scores higher than Soul Asylum? My how quickly we forget. And then remember and hop on the nearest wagon. |
Posted By: Kat Posted On: Jun 5, 2008 Views: 1224 | there are others I would think 'Babes In Toyland' at least deserves a mention. And how about Duluth's 'Low'? Oh, and come on, no 'Suburbs'? Chan Poling didn't play the part of a-hole on the 'Mats Let It Be to be disrespected this way, LOL. |
Posted By: Jeff Posted On: Jun 5, 2008 Views: 1223 | AHC you left off the band American Head Charge, their first CD Art of War was produced by the famous Rick Rubin |
Posted By: Ben Posted On: Jun 3, 2008 Views: 1302 | Dylan's roots Yes, Dylan became popular after leaving Minnesota. However, he WAS born and raised here, learned about music here, and honed his early skills on the U of M's Dinkytown scene. Ever heard of Koerner, Ray, and Glover? Dylan did, and ripped them off a bit as well. Ever heard of Blood on The Tracks? Yep, recorded in Minneapolis. Also, Dylan still owns a ranch near Buffalo, MN, I'd say that qualifies him as a Minnesotan. If you live somewhere from birth to your early 20's, that place makes you who you are. |
Posted By: Steve Posted On: Jun 3, 2008 Views: 1329 | Dylan=Whitman Prince only leads this poll because he tried harder than The Replacements to be a pop act -- and he did do great things as a pop artist. Anyone who thinks Dylan's stature needs to be voted on doesn't know music -- he's kind of the beginning of modern American music the way Whitman was kind of the beginning of modern American poetry. |
Posted By: Oh, please.. Posted On: Jun 3, 2008 Views: 1306 | Dylan Schmylan Who really considers Dylan a Minnesota artist anyway? Anything important he ever did was after his relocation to New York, unlike these other artists. Relax, folks... |
Posted By: weak sauce Posted On: Jun 3, 2008 Views: 1270 | crappy poll wow. its pretty ridiculous to see bob dylan left off of this list, but its sickening to see who was thrown on that list rather than him |
Posted By: derka der Posted On: Jun 3, 2008 Views: 1276 | bob dylan this poll is bunk. leaving off dylan?? |
Posted By: Robert Zimmerman Posted On: Jun 2, 2008 Views: 1295 | Who's Bob Dylan? I seem to recall a certain young man who was born and raised in Minnesota. I think he went by Bob something, ah man what was his name, um um DYLAN. BOB F*****G DYLAN YOU MORONS. Now I know the question wouldn't have been fair if he had been in there, but maybe we should start the question with, "Besides Bob Dylan, the greatest song writer ever,". Oh my freakin banana boots, WOW. The stupid thing wouldn't even let me select "Other". POS. |
