A destination dur4ing life.

As a young lad about the age of twelve, I was touched by an embrodary my mother had that had the image of a house along the side of a road. The words said " Let me live in a house by the side of the road and be a friend to man". In my older years I searched for the complete Poem.I am now 80 years old and very sentimental. This poem by Foss means a great deal to me.

I read the poem on a piece of ceramic shaped as a book with gold letters. It was in my neighbors house 53 years ago. My neighbor was a librarian. Oddly enough, a friend gave me a similiar shaped ceramic piece for my birthday.
I tried to read the bio on Mr. Ross but was unable to get the link.

Since I was a little girl we had this poem framed and hanging on the wall. It had been embroidered by my grandmother. It now hangs at my nieces home and another has been found by my nephew and hangs in his house. I just told them of the author's name. I'm glad I now know the rest of the poem.

My mother

All my life my mother had the portion of this poem stating "let me be a friend to man" framed hanging by her front door of every house she lived in. When she died at 80 years of age I buried it with her. she truly was a friend to man.
