| Posted By: Jason whitaker Posted On: Jul 12, 2011 Views: 4063 | Scoliosis Hello to the people out there dealing with scoliosis I am 29 years old. I was diagnosed with scoliosis when I was 18 months old I instantly had Surgery was put in a body cast and it seemed to work but it was severe congenital scoliosis my spine is twisted along with being curved. I have four ribs missing and for some reason I have four kidneys as if I had any more space inside to give up. I had a semi normal childhood except for school I was bullied forever. I look like the hunchback I have really long legs and a very very short torso with a large hump on my back. The surgery as a baby worked good enough until I was eleven I believe and I had surgery to put one bar in my back along with double fusion. It worked for two years and I had a brand new T-shirt give me a staph infection that spread halfway down my bar in a day I had emergency surgery and it was taken out. That lasted till my ribs and spine started crushing my heart and lung and I went back to hospital and had slices cut in my vertebra and put in a halo with 10 gradually to 50 lbs of pressure pulling up on my skull. Five months later had double bar and more fusions done. I've had a couple small things done during all that but there's all the major stuff. You never get used to it especially in east Texas where the doctors look at me and ask what do you want me to do and they wontgive pain medication because they don't want me to get addicted I've never been addicted to anything. So I live with just excedrin back and body for my lower back and excedrin tension headache for the neck aches as for hip and leg and foot pain haven't found anything yet but if you know something or just chat about stuff email me at Jason_w9669@yahoo.com |
| Posted By: Maddie Posted On: Aug 19, 2010 Views: 3724 | freshmen hi im maddie i just started my freshmen year! Last week i found out i have scoliosis. i have a 25 curve on the top and a 13 curv on the bottom. my back sometimes hurts, but my knee has been realy hurting. is this because of growing pains or scoliosis. also i herd that 95% of girls who have it there right sholder is higher and that they curve to the left, like me. i thought that maybe it was because they are (95%)right handed and the muscles on that side were stronger? i also have to get a brace but i don't know what kind? i heard that the spinecor brace (made of soft elastic staps) is waaaaaay comfyer and you can't notice it at all! i want to get that kind but i dont know yet. Peace yo! |
| Posted By: . . . Posted On: Apr 26, 2010 Views: 4013 | . . . I am a 14 year old freshman and I had to wear a back brace for about two years. I'm out of it now. I wore that thing for 23 hours a day, and I know it hurts at first, but trust me, you'll get used to it. My curve only got a few degrees worse than what it was. It's at a 48 degree curve right now, and my bottom curve is at 32. Just keep wearing your brace as often as you can. ;) It can be a pain sometimes, I know, but you know what's fun with it? While you are wearing it, walk up to someone and tell them to punch you as hard as they can in your stomach. :D But I have a question. Should I get surgery even though my spine isn't over a 50 degree curve? I ask this because my right arm goes off at an angle, and my right shoulder blade sticks out because of scoliosis. I don't know if it is linked to scoliosis, but I play softball and it HURTS when I throw. My doctor told me it was because of my arm angle and the mucsle being overexerted. Can you tell me if it is linked to scoliosis, and if it is, would you recommend me getting surgery? |
| Posted By: Paige Posted On: Jan 11, 2010 Views: 2841 | Scoliosis and Dance Well Shelbea, I am in the eighth grade too. I am also a very dedicated dancer. I was put into a brace early October of 2009 and I am still trying to cope with it. I am slowly getting used to it but it is getting better. I dance three days a week for about 2 hours each day. (not counting weekend performances) This has not really affected my dancing other than I sometimes have to wear it between performances. Trust me, It will get easier. If you have any questions, feel free to Email me at paiger-raiger@cableone.net :) |

| Posted By: Shelby Posted On: Feb 28, 2009 Views: 2958 | Concerned I'm in the 8th grade and i found out that i have scoliosis arounf November. I went back for a folow up wednesday and they had told me my curves have progressed about 4 degrees in three months. My curves went from 40* to 44* and 28 to 33*. I just got fitted for a brace yesterday. Dancing has been my life since i was 3. 3 hours a day mon- thurs. I don't want to get made un of at school by people. I'm concerned that if my curves still progress and i have to get surgery, then dancing will be a struggle for me... any advice? please. |
| Posted By: megan Posted On: Feb 13, 2009 Views: 2895 | getting worried.. I have been diagnosed with scoliosis of the spine since i was in high school and am still struggling with coping with it and i am now 26. i had a back brace which helped but got fiercly bullied by my peers. my weight has been severly effected by my scoliosis..eat like a pig and seem to just put on very little weight and am getting depressed somewhat with this but just recently(in past month) have noticed that my left hand side of back is straight and the other is somewhat curved and is starting to effect me at work..work in a care home in the kitchen so am always on my feet and standing at a sink but also do stuff like laying tables things are becoming difficult..simple things like sitting and sleeping but am taking painkillers to get me through the day and have finally got it into my head that i HAVE to take painkillers and keep up with them to survive a days work or just even going to the shop. Would love to hear from people who are in a similiar position to me and learn of how you cope with this |
| Posted By: katie Posted On: Jan 27, 2009 Views: 2442 | you can talk to me I know what you are talking about. I've had a body brace for 4 years before my surgery.I have... had 2 curves so they kinda kept my head where it should be. I top curve was a 60 degrese curve before they fixed it. If you would like someone to talk to... hi. If not then too bad. If you do want to talk i'm telling you now i'm a bit crazy at times. 8D *for anyone who is depresed* Get a horse or dog they wont make fun of you. |

| Posted By: Kathy Posted On: Jan 2, 2009 Views: 2350 | Mild Scoliosis My elder sister and brother were given inversion exercises as babies. But I was not because I had Kawasaki. Then recently I went to the National Sports Institute in my country (I am an athlete) to check on my shoulder. Who knew we would discover I had scoliosis... Now I understand why I always lean to the left... |

| Posted By: robin Posted On: Sep 28, 2008 Views: 2688 | scoliosis I am 48 years old and had a spinal fusion when iI was 10 and another when I was 12. My left shoulder blade extends out and my right one is flat. I am a d/b manager at a grocery store and have back pain almost everyday of my life. The pain does not get better with age, it gets worse. I have to try not to think about it alot. If I thought about it all the time would never get out of bed. People that do not have it can not imagine the pain is causes, the muscle spasms or the fatigue that accompanys it. It's is nice to know that I am not the only one that suffers from constant back pain. I wish they could come up with a way to remove or flaten the over-developed shoulder blade. That would take away a lot of pain. |
