| Posted By: M_Boss Posted On: Sep 6, 2008 Views: 507 | Fuel The reason your car runs better, and is more responsive with the 93 octane is because the engine uses 2 knock sensors in the valley between the two banks of cylinders. When it detects pre-ignition or detonation it backs off the ignition timing thus giving it the most advanced timing for the fuel being used, which gives you the most efficiency and power. The grading of fuel is actually determined by its resistence to detonation. The higher the octane, the more resistant to detonation, more advanced timing, more power. On a side note you can actually hear the pre-ignition in the prowlers when running a lower grade fuel, usually at approx 30-50% throttle, it sounds like a metallic tapping or rattling noise, which is very bad for internal engine parts. The reason for the label on the inside of your fuel lid to say unleaded premium only is because the cars software is not equipped to deal with lower octane fuel. So i urge you not to skimp out on gas for your prowler, no matter what the fuel cost is. |

Performance is much better with the 93, shaves 2 tenths off 0 to 60 times and engine seems more responsive to full throttle excitement. |
