"His mid-1980s band John McCrea and the Roughousers recorded the songs "Love You Madly" and "Shadow Stabbing," which were later re-recorded by CAKE. This band included Mike Urbano(drums) Pete Costello(bass) and Robert Kuhlmann(Guitar." How cool would it be to hear those songs how they were recorded back then? I'm sure there must be some differences between the recordings off Comfort Eagle. Does anyone know of these recordings? |

My husband had a band 15 years ago that recorded on direct hit records and it's easy to get indie records from the companies whether they are in business or not. UNLESS the owner knows what a rare recording he has and wants a fortune for it. It would be cool to hear it. I do notice a difference in John's voice on the old youtube recordings. |

I have the recordings from the Dalai Lamas which were before the Roughhousers. I think I have about 10 songs that were later recorded by CAKE and about 10 that have not been re-recorded...but you never know, they may end up on the next CD |

It is a Led Zepplin Tribute called "The Song Retains the Name" The song is "Good Times, Bad Times" Very cool. I think it was recorded in 1988. You can find it on CD or LP. There are a few other recordings of The Dalai Lamas, also John Mccrea's "Rancho Seco" (I prefer the accoustic version). They were with Mad Rover records from the mid to late 80's |
