I had no idea it was written by Caroline Norton. She wrote it to keep body and soul together, in the days when women had no rights or prospects other than in marriage. It is wonderful to be able to Google such things. |

Gilbert recites it, and when he comes to the part 'There's another, not a sister' he looks right at Anne (as reported by Diana). I've always wanted to know what the poem was about - and now I know! |

My dad is no longer with me now and my husband now resites this poem and will get choked up.. its a great poem with lots of memories for me.. |

The poem he loved to quote was "Bingen on the Rhine". What a woman she was. |
