Having to care for two blind family members has left me with a real appreciation for eyesight. Thank God this surgery has come so far in a few decades. You see the world clearly enough, my friend, but I hope the change in your eyesight will amaze you.
Will begin my day with a prayer....thump, thump...

They are already looking into Marro contract and wonder how he got our commissiners to sign it. We don't need Wilson in Pike either. He and Marro run in the same circles.

Ugly comments

Cmon, folks. Play nice or JC will boot your ass of his blog after his eye surgery and he sees what is being said about others. Are you bible thumpers hiding behind a screen name so you can post your unkind comments?

Jeannie's friend

He is the one we should feel sorry for. He could have gone in the pond with the SUV. He is having a rough time, he lost his only friend, the SUV.

LEAVE JEANNIE ALONE

Those newspaper articles are just not fair to Jeannie.
She is so pretty and the articles are so bad. She works hard and stuff just happens to her. How can she be expected to do her job right when she has to worry about her personal life. She has a hard time...you remember when her SUV went into the pond. And her husband has all those dead chickens that need to be picked up. And the mistakes were probably because of her office staff, or the board of commissioners, or her board of assessors. She is doing the best she can.

Poor George

Somebody better go check on George. He sounds terribly sick. He is talking out of his head.

Thanksgiving

We should all be thankful for the leadership and moving Pike forward that Executive County Manager Director Steve Marro and Commissioner Donald Collins exhibit. Without these two outstanding individuals just where would our great county be?

Happy Thanksgiving to all, you too Jeannie.

From Barnesville Dispatch

Spalding County Manager Resigns

William P. Wilson, Jr., longtime employee and manager of Spalding County, tendered his resignation Monday following a special closed-door meeting of the Spalding County Board of Commissioners. The action came moments after the Board reconvened in open session and agreed by majority vote to end negotiations toward a new contract for the chief executive, which is set to expire December 31st.

A copy of Wilson’s letter was distributed to each commissioner and the full text appears below.

In his resignation Mr. Wilson said:

I hereby tender my resignation as Spalding County Manager, Effective December 30, 2009.
I have been privileged to be a part of this organization for a little over twenty-four years, and Spalding County has been a part of me since birth. Growing up in this wonderful county has brought me great joy all of my life. I have learned much and have worked for and with many talented individuals since beginning my career with Spalding County in September of 1985.

The five positions I have occupied in my career here before accepting the County Manager position in November of 2000, (Finance Director, Assistant County Administrator, Interim County Administrator, Assistant County Manager, and Deputy County Manager) gave me the knowledge and insight to lead this County through good times and bad, and for that I am grateful.

I wish nothing but the best for the Board of Commissioners and feel my decision to resign is what is needed at this time to allow the divides within the County to heal and move on with the business of making Spalding County the best it can be.

With Highest regards and best wishes, I remain

Sincerely,
William P. Wilson, Jr.

County Manager

This was on the Barnesvilledispatch.com
I think that is a wonderful idea. I wonder why Pike County doesn't do this.

Tammy

It is good to hear from you. Only wish you were still in Pike to cover the story for the PCJ that is on the Barnesville Dispatch regarding taxes. Your coverage of Pike was fair and informative for the citizens of Pike. We miss you, but are glad for you in your new position. Family first. God Bless

Why I left PJR

I read the comment regarding why I left the PJR, and I couldn't let it pass without a correction. I left the PJR for another job. I have nothing but respect for the Geigers, who treated me well while I worked there.
Practically every newspaper in the country is facing the same things many of us face in this tough economy. Just as a person with multiple skills has a better chance in the job market, a newspaper has a better chance of reaching more people with diversification. That is why newspapers have expanded their reach with websites. To me, it is a good blend. I read websites and I appreciate their timeliness.
As for the blogs, they give readers a chance to respond to an article or happening. Some people like to participate; some don't. I am an advocate of free speech, though I like to temper my free speech with good manners. I would not venture to tell others what they should or should not say.
And I will always buy a newspaper because I like tradition and I like their portability.
