| Posted By: soapluver Posted On: Feb 26, 2010 Views: 441 | No Award For HeteroSexuals No soap would be nominated if there was an award for portraying heterosexual couples...because no soap right now even tries to show heteros in long-term, committed relationships. It's become all about hooking up, then breaking up. Even on the rare occasions a couple makes it to the altar, they break up within months. At least on ATWT, Luke and Noah have been together for several years (although they are never shown interacting in a NORMAL fashion for two people who are supposed to love each other.) When was the last time a NEW hetero couple on ATWT was allowed to have that kind of longevity? Basically, the writers are LOUSY when it comes to ALL relatiohsips, whether heterosexual OR homosexual. |
| Posted By: CC Posted On: Jan 30, 2010 Views: 1878 | No Y&R? What?!?! No nomination for Y&R? What about their attempt of a gay s/l. You know, the one with Adam being bi/gayish. The one that caused an uproar. The one that got Chris Engen to quit. Why not nominate that one? Oh, for shame..... |
| Posted By: valerieUK Posted On: Jan 28, 2010 Views: 2091 | GLAAD Media awards OLTL definitely gets my vote. I have been a long-time watcher of this show and have thought many times during the recent scenes WOW, the production people are certainly brave going this far with this subject and the more I watched the more I agreed with what they are doing. Good job to them. |
| Posted By: Jason Posted On: Jan 28, 2010 Views: 1913 | One Live to Live I don`t see how any could not vote for OLTL for this. None of the other shows come close to what OLTL has done with their same-sex stories. First you have AMC, where Reese & Bianca did get married, but then broke up before the ink on their marriage license had time to dry & Bianca left town. They did get back together, but then they both left town. On ATWT, Luke & Noah rarely kiss and the writers seem more intent on coming up with stories to keep them from being together then from actually showing them as they would any heterosexual couple. Finally, on GL, Olivia & Natalia continually professed their love for each other, but never actually did anything to show it. You can claim that the GL writers were censored by P&G, CBS or whomever, but the fact is, that the award should be given based on what actually transpired on screen. I`m sure every actor wants to give brilliant performances and win awards for those performances, whether they can is another story. The GL writers may have wanted to portray Otalia as a couple no different from any of the heterosexual couples, but, quite simply, they didn`t/couldn`t. The award should go to OLTL, the only soap to portray some of the issues facing gay & lesbian individuals and to show their same-sex couple as a couple not that different from the any of the other couples on the show |
| Posted By: Soapstud Posted On: Jan 28, 2010 Views: 736 | One Life To Live In comparision to the other shows, OLTL is the one show that is proving to be brave with this story. NO OTHER show has depicted a same-sex romance in such a positive manner. There are real complications and we see real interactions. OLTL is the best show around and this story exemplifies that. |
| Posted By: amidola Posted On: Jan 27, 2010 Views: 649 | Guiding Light While GL failed to deliver in the sexy department, where they were clearly censored, they almost overcompensated with everything else. It''s true, I drink everytime I hear "I want to be with you",etc. What remains, though is that Kiss or not..I miss them like crazy. They gave me a sense of what family can be like. And for that they get my vote;-) |
| Posted By: toastedgrrl Posted On: Jan 27, 2010 Views: 760 | OLTL Though I was fanatic for Otalia for a time, ultimately the story failed to deliver. Instead of a beautiful love story, fans were fed an intimacy-free friendship story laden with homophobia and sexism. And then there's OLTL and the Kish/same-sex wedding/gay bashing stories. These stories have been told with grace and near-perfect execution. Oliver and Kyle not only kiss frequently, their love-making scene was on par with the heterosexual ones in the very same episode. OLTL had delivered, in a big way, what queer soap fans have been wishing for: parity, character integration, and respect. |
| Posted By: Briony Posted On: Jan 27, 2010 Views: 711 | Guiding Light GL should definitely win this. I haven't found anything that has come close to being as good as Otalia since the cancellation. |

| Posted By: Michael Posted On: Jan 26, 2010 Views: 560 | GLAAD Awards GL should win due to the wonderful execution of the Olivia/Natalia love story. After its cancellation, I switched to OLTL which has been showcasing some classic soapy stuff and, despite a few flaws, has been the best show on the air for a couple of years now. |
