Posted By: Jörn Thiele Posted On: Oct 17, 2010 Views: 1773 | Porter again?? Everybody who likes to help that project, means who is not interested in sitting again with two teams in a Pilatus, should talk to his IPC Delegate. Especially the Nationalteams and upcoming teams should explain to the "IPC Delegates" the reason, why teams don´t want to train that aircraft for a world meet anymore. The IPC Delegates are going to decide about that subject in January 2011, so they are the right persons to talk to. And it is better to talk soon... Jörn german4way |

Posted By: Solly Williams Posted On: Oct 13, 2010 Views: 754 | Such a wonderful plane! I personally love the Porter as a jump plane. My favorite world meet was 1995 which was out of a Porter. However there was one major difference between 1995 and France 2008 and also what we should expect in the future too. It boils down to how many people are going to be siting in the aircraft on jump run!! In 1995 we had only one team in the plane. The training in Gap prior to the meet never had more then 8 people on the load either. Was fantastic. I can remember the French national team training along side us in DeLand though a few months prior to that world meet. Wasn't a bunch of smiles in that plane when we asked if we could get in with them to train. So here we are in 2010 thinking about 2012. Jump costs have increased world wide since 1995 or 2008 for that matter. It is simply not feasible to operate Porters anymore with less then 9 people in the plane. That doesn't work with two 4-ways so then it should be expected that all team training and competitions out of a Porter will be with 10 people on board in the future. Now I would suspect for 10 people from the likes of Japan or China this might not be such a hinderance. However if your team average height is 6ft(like mine used to be) then no doubt the tune changes. In summary I would have to say the Porter remains one of my favorite aircraft to jump from. Would I want to train for a world meet out of it today. Heck no!! There are better options out there so simply WHY do it? In a perfect world I would like to see all world meets from tailgates. Way more comfortable and takes out the continuity issue too. However it should be noted that my lack of support for a world meet out of Porters is not driven by continuity at all. It's about comfort and affordability for the competitors. For the people! :) Let the votes be heard. Solly Williams |
Posted By: Jörn Thiele Posted On: Oct 13, 2010 Views: 739 | No more Porter Good to have that subject on the official NSL News: In fact it is a good challenge to change doors and aircrafts, but: -it is hard to find somebody who likes to train 300- 400 jumps out of a porter -Sitting in that aircraft with 10 skydivers is horrible - it is hard to find good training possibilities on the common FS training drop zones - it should be respected that most of the competitors don´t want to go back to that little aircraft again, we already signed a petition in Menzelinsk. And we are going to sign another one based on facebook. Everybody can join that group no more pilatus on world meets in FS Hope to get that subject fixed Jörn Thiele german4way |
