SMOKING BAN

It would be great for Jamaica to ban smoking indoors at restaurants and bars.
First, people with asthma, like me, can finally breathe! It's disgusting to inhale a room of secondhand smoke while locked up in an air conditioned room - we are the ones who usually end up outside.
Secondly, restaurant and bar owners will find that their furniture will stay beautiful for longer, since the yellow tobacco stains, burn marks and constant odour will be gone.
BTW, smoking is banned indoors in all public places in Ontario, Canada - that is the law. People have adjusted to it so well that they don't actually smoke in their homes either anymore: they go onto their balcony or porch to light up, no matter the temperature. So, for the person who said "it didn't work in Canada", you are very wrong!

Tobacco ban - restaurants

It's a good idea. The dining experience is much nicer without smoke, and the bars become more interesting. How?

Take a look at other places that have banned smoking in cafes/bars/restaurants. I'm talking New York, Australia, New Zealand, Paris, L.A...

What happened? The bars, afraid of losing custom, respond by providing patio/balcony areas, sometimes with an outdoor serving area. This gives the patron more choice. People who smoke seem to meet more members of the opposite sex here. Why? Because they are forced into outdoor spaces with random people and, smokers tend to chat with whoever is there smoking with them.

It gives you a chance to get up and move around, you smoke less, and enjoy your food/drinks at a more leisurely pace. Yes, I speak from experience.

This didn't work so well in Canada because, let's face it, who wants to stand outside in the howling snow and wind for a cigarette. But Jamaica, long may she prosper, is warm and lovely in the evenings. Throw in a bit of greenery around your outdoor tables and...it's a recipe for success.

Do it!

Ban Smoking in Public Places

Those who oppose banning smoking in public places are either insensitive or ignorant.
The air is generally pure. Tobacco smoke, which is a proven cancer-causing agent, destroys that purity, forcing non-smokers, who cannot live without air, to inhale the polluted air thus running the risk of developing cancer.

While I do know the tragic danger of alcohol and the havoc it has wreaked on society, I do believe that over the long haul tobacco is far more destructive and widespread in it's effect upon society. In an ideal civil society, truly concerned about the health, safety and well-being of it's citizens, both "social ills" would be banned, but since we are not in an ideal society let's ban the one that does more evil to most people - tobacco.

smoking

Drinking should be banned as well in that case too! What about second hand drinking, This is worst than second hand smoke! the residual effect is worst; so many "Non-smokers"and "Smokers" drink two or more delicious cocktails, get in the car, and run you over!! This impact is Huge!! Second hand smoke kills slowly!, Second hand drinking kills you instantly!!!!

Smoking should be banned

I am of the opinion that smoking in public places should be banned. While you ca give an take with bars and pubs it should definitely be so in resturaunts.

It should also be banned in hotels as sometimes you book rooms in hotels and thr residual effect of the constant smoking in the rooms are hard to get rid off and can spoil ones stay in a hotel especially if you suffer from respiratory problems.

Smoking

I feel that smoking in Public places should be banned. But to phase it out Restuarants should perhaps have another room for smokers, but Goverment should set a deadline such as "in 6 months there will be a total ban

smoke

I don't smoke but if grown people want to smoke, that's their choice. If a restaurant wishes to cater for people who smoke they should be free to do so. It is up to the "non-smoker" to decide if he or she wants to dine there. That's my take.

ALL_ARE_TOXIC

Smoke is smoke, it contains toxins, and allergens. The human lungs weren't intended to inhale anything else other than clean air, not even pure oxygen.
Smoke weed all, or most of your life and you will end-up with lung problems, such as: emphysema, and other respiratory problems.
