In production applications where the steel is a thin to medium thickness it can not be beat. It is a clean process with little to no prep. With the newer servo valves the shock to the work piece is almost gone and the pressure is far more stable. Alot of welders do not like the method because the operator needs little skill that is when its not automated. I have serviced resistance welders for over seven years. Part of the problem in the field is that plant managers think a guy with a BA in electronics or a welding engineer can setup, program, and troubleshoot any welding system. I do calls at customers sites where I work with the fore mentioned and they truly have no clue how to troubleshoot. You have to be able isolate the welder from all the other components of the system such robots, plcs, and the tooling itself. Supervisors othe world give the guy with alot of experince and no BA a damn break. I am the leader of a welding repair division and everyone under me has a higher formal education. The fact remains I am the technical leader and its for a reason. I am the best one in the department. |
