The do cause fires -- the butts do NOT break down (Acetate is non-biodegradable!) The toxins filtered out to protect you are now leeched into the ground. There's just nothing positive about it. In fact, I'm compiling a list of laws for each state -- littering is illegal and we need to start fining those who break the laws. Thousands of cigarette butts all over America adds up. Fires are started all over this country by careless incosiderate people who toss lit cigarettes. People have lost homes, property, and lives do to such carelessness. This is litering and people should be ticketed. I remove cigarette butts among other trash including broken bottles and fast food bags from my front lawn nearly everyday. How inconsiderate can you be to toss your trash wherever it lands? Has no one taught these filthy pigs to use a trash can? |

But the fact is, they're hazardous and unsafe for the environment. Millions of people through there cig. butts out the window while driving, or on the ground... the amount of cig. littered could circle the whole entire world. That's disgusting. You have to think about the worlds future and the environment. Plants and animals were on this planet before man was even thought of. Consider what you're doing to the innocent. They don't screw you're world up, don't kill them!! It's sad really. |

Cigarette butts aren't biodegradable, plus they make the enviroment unsafe and very unappealing to look at, especially when there's a nice soggy pile of them in a parking lot because some idiot just emptied his ashtray! Butts are frequently found in the systems of sea animals and other small animals like rodents. The butts contain trace amounts of poisonous chemicals that can interfere with the health of these creatures, and because the filters are not highly degradable, they can cause long-term digestive problems. If you will notice at redlights and stop signs- places where automobiles most frequently stop, there are not mounds of cigarette butts. Why, you ask. Because cigarette butts are made from PAPER and COTTON- hence they are biodegradable!! In all actuality the cotton and paper fibers hold moisture in the soil and ACTUALLY HELP the soil to maintain moisture necessary for plant growth. CIGARETTE BUTTS ARE GOOD FOR THE ENVIRONMENT!!! |

First off, cigarette butts barely change the aesthetic quality of our surroundings because they usually fall into crevices in the ground and vanish as does a leaf when fallen from the tree. Dont throw around any **** about cigarettes not decomposing like leaves or whatever because ive seen my own cigarette butts after a month laying on the ground outside and they turn to pulp and decompose much quicker than a ****ing leaf pile. Second, you ****ing fools who say that they cause fires or what not, u are just plain idiots. Forest fires are a neccessary factor for this planet to help many species of plants survive. Forest fires are safe to our planet and have been in much more abundance before the exitance of humans. The reason more and more forest fires keep happening is because the earth has seen so few conflagrations in the past hundred years that its becoming much easier for a forest fire to actually happen. I dont feel like going into the scientific data to prove this. Finally, and most importantly, the amount of excess effort and stress which happens from putting out all the finished cigarettes and disposing of them in the "correct" areas, by millions of smokers, is millions of times greater than the stress/harm caused to people who see cigarette butts laying on the street or experience loss of forest. We dont need those ****ing trees for our survival anyway, once again i do not feel like using scientific explanations for this. Now if all you up tight assholes can excuse me, im going to have a ****ing cigarette, then im going to flick it into a nearby forest, and then im going to spray numerous aerosole cans up into the air and finally i will go hunting for some endangered species. I know the residents of Durango, CO who lost 75,000 acres of public and private lands to a cigarette butt this summer would agree. Cigarette butts in any form are litter, period. There is no argument to discuss. If you smoke, use an ashtray. If you can't find an ashtray, snuff the cherry and put the butt in your pocket. If you see someone toss a butt, report them. If you are comfortable doing so, pick it up and give it back. At the least, write a letter to your local newspaper editor as well as the major tobacco companies expressing your disgust, and demanding that action be taken. It is time to step up and raise some hell. The earth is not an ashtray. |

That lit butt could cause a fire and possiblly kill an innocent person. |

They feel justified in throwing their cigarette butts out of car windows, or disposing of them on the ground when they're done smoking the cigarette. To me, there's nothing more disgusting than seeing piles of old soggy cigarette butts at intersections, on park grounds, beaches, etc. For example, if you're stopped at a stop light or sign, take a good look at the road while you're waiting. Chances are that the majority of the litter lining the gutters, curbs, etc. are cigarette butts that people have pitched out of their windows while driving. Actually, I come from a family of former smokers; I grew up around my Mom, Grandma, and Grandpa smoking. I remember while riding with my Grandma in the car while I was young, I would always sit very close to the car door. I remember my Grandma asking me why I sat so close to the door. I remember replying, "Because I'm allergic to cigarette butts!" You see, my grandparents were heavy smokers, and they never emptied their ashtray in their car. It was always overflowing, and the sight of that always grossed me out. I guess that I should be grateful that they did use the ashtray in the car, instead of pitching their butts out the window. Anyway, that nasy memory always comes to mind when I see a cigarette butt. I'm 33 now, and I'm grateful that I never smoked. I certainly don't intend to start! :) |
