very useful exam

I used to take other exams. I do think IELTS is designed under communicative method. What will we expect to gain through hard study and high exams fee? That is realy improvement in communicatioin with native English speaker.I think IELTS is the best exam suited in this demand.

IELTS is a good exam

I think, IELTS is a good exam. In this exam, the basics qualities of the English language like: Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking skills are tested. But unfortunately, preparation material is not available on the net for free.

listening test

i presented the ielts test once time , i need (5) scores to pass in australian requierments for immigeriation . the problem is in the listening test ,that we have to hear for the tape once time only ,i think that is not useful to hear once time for student who has problem in his
listening skills because some students couldn,t hear the answers in one time because its difficult to hear for answers once only .my suggest is why your don,t make the listening to the tape twice times it,s more useful and comfortable for students than once time to be able to get high scores in their test . ihave got 4 scores of 9 band in last test.
i look forward to hear from yours about this suggest.

your faithfully:

it is just dreadful

dear sir /madam:
I have taken the IELTS three times now and every time I get the same ''damn'' 6.5 score ,please excuse my words but that is only because of my huge anger& frustration.
I only need to score 7 is that much to ask?
I studed hard every time I toke the test , I tried taken''Specialy Designed'' courses and spent houres and houres memorising new vocabulary and practicing all the techniqes that I've learned.
But still the same result and you know what is the worst part ? I have to hold still my academic future for another 3month before I can try again. Is't that just funny.
I think the IELTS is just a dreadful way to make some ones' live very, very miserable.

COMMENT ON IELTS

22-03-2002

Dear IELTS organisers,

I strongly believe that IELTS is not a measurement to judge one's ENGLISH Language ability within the given period of time.

I discussed with number of people but everyone is reluctant to take IELTS.

I had seen number of people who are very good at English in all aspects and are able to write English Poetry and they do send their reports and publications to overseas magazines, are still didn't get required band score in IELTS. It doesn't mean that they are not good at English.

While conducting Listening test, everyone should concentrate their mind on the cassette. So concentration is the most important factor while taking the listening test. The concentration factor varies from age to age which was proven scientifically by many doctors. Young students are able to concentrate more because they were young who can concentrate more than any elder. The people aged between 30 - 40 years are well matured and are having lot of responsibilities who couldn't concentrate by that time. So it doesn't mean that they are not good at listening.

So in any aspect IELTS cannot judge one's English language ability.

Yours sincerely,
B. SRIKANTH

IELTS is not good measurement

My opinion is That IELTS is not a good way to measure a foreigner's English knowledge.
It's very obvious that the test makers are the native English speakers as they don't know the approach of an English learner to the language.

It is perfect for some one who has grown under the influence of English culture.
it's not only my opinion but I have also talked about it with many of my frinds who have had this test. I know a lot of good English speakers who couldn't get a good score in IELTS. and that's not because of their anxiety,... while having exam that's because this test is more a technique than English knowledge.e.g. task one of writing, one can exactly memorise the type of sever samples and copy almost the same method in the exam. while some one who has got a very good English knowledge but hasn't practised for these techniques might lose score.

So a test shouldn't be in a way that one can fix on the techniques rather than knowledge.

From my point of view an English test should be in way that on one could be prepared within a month or so because if it more depends on the knowldge it is what which should be obtained for longer period.
of course I'm not saying that IELTS does not test the English knowledge at all. but it's not the best type of test for an non English speaking stuent.

best regards
maryam amiri

Reading Test

Dear Sir,
I think reading part of ielts(Both general training & Academic)is very tough. It should be little bit easy.
So think it to re-organise it if possible.
Thanking you.
