Posted By: Peter Callaghan Posted On: Dec 29, 2001 Views: 1940 | Ethnocentricity and relevance The IELTS test is so heavily biased towards those who have the opportunity to live in an English speaking country. As an ESL teacher, I have been dealing with IELTS and TOEFL examinations for more than 10 years. These two methods of testing are so arbitrary, that it is my opinion that only 20% of candidates enter the exam with any real chance of success. Students beware, you are not being tested on English ability but on the whim of a select group of testers on any given day. The listening sections are a joke, being derived from "life" that may bear no resemblance to the experience of the candidate. I myself have failed to achieve a satisfactory score in an IELTS test, and I am a native born English teacher. Students should be aware that this exam is a political tool, and can be used to determine if you are "a satisfactory candidate" or not, depending on prevailing political climates. |
Posted By: huy Posted On: Nov 27, 2001 Views: 1759 | it's too hard It's is a bad designed test. The reasons are that we do not have adequate idea to write a essay. moreover, we all feel nervous in speaking section, but we must make up some points to talk during the test. so it's terrible. |
Posted By: dilshad Posted On: Nov 26, 2001 Views: 1718 | The layout design((reading+ writing) The layout design((reading+ writing) Questions are easy and students with basic knowledge of english should be comfortable with the types. But more concentration should be directed on total layout design of questions.Sometimes there seems to be unnecessary complication regarding layout of presenting a simple question. Toefl has its plus point on this point alone. Please improve the way to ask questions(reading+ writing)and writing the answers. |
Posted By: Hung Posted On: Nov 9, 2001 Views: 1696 | reading module I find it slightly difficult to get high scores on this module. Are there any ways that make this module shorter? |
Posted By: irum Posted On: Oct 23, 2001 Views: 1698 | reading module reading module is sometime very irrelevent ,esp.for the doctors .I think the reading passages should be selected from relevent subjects .say, in case of a doctor , it may be from essay that is related to medicine or in case of an advocate related to his field and so on ,to make the life on the candidate easier. |
