Pat Garrett shot someone that night long ago in Fort Sumner, New Mexico but it sure wasn't Billy the Kid. Several people who were there that night said that it wasn't, including John William Poe. Nevertheless, Garrett got the $500 reward money for killing the Kid and half the royalties for his book, "The Authentic Life of Billy the Kid," which was actually ghost written by his friend, Ash Upsom, who had a gift for embellishment. So much for what passes as history these days. |

| Posted By: Roy Thoms Posted On: Apr 6, 2010 Views: 4136 | Billy the Kid Yea there is some pretty Interesting stuff that brushy Bill claims and it starts with the fact that he "claims" That a man named barlow was shot instead, now that could be true because there was a barlow family from new mexico during that Time Era, But i have to ask why would Pat garrett stage a fake death and run the risk of being Called a Liar?, There is also the other that fact i am sure the US Marshall's office and the other law enforcement office's that Brushy claims to have worked for would have checked into to who he really was, Plus i am sure That Pat Garrett would have Mounted a Posse to round him up if he knew that the Billy the kid was still alive rather then be called a liar since Reputation was a Major Facter back then, I think brushy Bill was a liar, But i also do believe that Billy the kidd wasnt shot in Fort Sumner, New Mexico, Brushy may have been there and seen what went on, But he isnt Billy the kidd, Billy had a Set of pistols with his named Engraved in the handles and the year he got them Thats Fact! |

How can you people ever expect to be taken seriously if you can't spell simple words. Secondly. for those of you who allege to be "experts" on the topic, get your facts straight. Read more than one book or article before you start spouting off. For those of us that are real outlaw historians it is just so hard to read these notes without laughing. To those amateur historians, try to sound more professional and perhaps your opinionated views might be taken seriously by some of the more easily duped readers out there. Comments such as "Billy would never have done that", or "If Billy and Brushy were one he would surely have remembered..." How do you know? Are you precient? How are you privy to what someone would think, do, or remember? This is how revisionist history has propagated over the years. (That means how it has grow and gotten more popular.) When historians infuse their opinions and conclussions into historical note, and it is then used later as a reference for others, the myths and supositions continue until the are accepted as fact. This happened with Butch Cassidy when his birthname was initially and mistakenly given as George Parker in the 1930's when his actual real name was Robert LeRoy Parker. Remember the old addage: "it is better to remain silent and thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt." And finally to those of you that have gone to the trouble of making a website, present both sides of the story, all of the information, otherwise when someone comes across your site that has some knowledge of the story, they will not take you seriously because you only present one side and denigrate those who do not agree with your view. Now I don't pretend to know everything about Billy the Kid, however, I have studied him for a very long time and interveiwed many people. Why go to so much trouble to stage a shooting? If he wanted to let him go then why did he go to so much trouble to chase him down and hope everone would keep their mouth shut that he had killed an innocent man to help fake "The Kid's" death? There is no doubt that Brushy's life had many similarities to Billy's but whose didn't back then? It just doesn't make a lot of sense to me. There were many other ways to fake his death or his escape for that matter. We need DNA testing or we will never know the truth. I put my money on Pat's story even tho there may be some inconsistencies. |

Brushy was born in 1881. C. If Brushy is Billy, who DID Pat Garret kill? D. Why did, if Brushy is Billy, he wait until he was practically dead, to come out and talk about it? Pat Garret had been dead a while. I don't think he had anything to fear. E. Somebody would have known that Billy wasn't dead. He was all over the place. Even if he did make it out of New Mexico--the world knew what he looked like. SOMEONE would have seen him long before the Brushy-ness happened. I've seen Brushy's grave and been to Hico. It's really sad to see it 'cuz there is no marker because deceived people keep stealing it. F.Brushy was telling children stories about "Billy's" life right? Some of the stories he told are--questionable. For the fact that NO ONE can verify them b/c he was one of a few witnesses and the others are all dead. G. What about the offspring of Billy? Why didn't they back up Brushy, if he was indeed Billy. |

| Posted By: Wayne Land Posted On: Jan 11, 2004 Views: 5329 | Common Sense Approach I agree the photos are convincing, I agree the statements of Brushy Bill and those who knew Billy The Kid are convincing, but the thing that settled it for me was the description of Brushy Bill's reluctance to go into the Lincoln Courthouse when first taken there by Morrison and the description of the shedding of tears by Brushy on more than one occasion while visiting the historic sites. It is just to hard to fake that for anyone with common sense to not believe Brushy's story. Many of the web sites on the matter point to discrepancies in Brushy's story but I have found that those comments were misquotes of what Brushy really said and in fact there just aren't any holes in his story at all. Another common sense observation, if Brushy was not Billy the Kid then how did he get gunshot wounds and knife wounds in all the right places? Does anyone want to suggest that during the years he was adamantly denying his true identity, he was methodically going about wounding himself in all the right places just so when he turned 90 he could claim he was the kid? Come on!!!! |

After reading alot of the things that have been put on paper about Bill Roberts I think we must conclude that the facts point to Bill Roberts being The Kid.I have been reading on this for 9 years and everything I see pro and con points to this.I find no concrete proof that has shown him not to be,and more that says he is. |

Every one agrees that the tin type of Bill is reversed ok then,look at eyebrows they match/left eyebrow has a bend the right brow thick and straight (match)ears (match)scares (match).The Kid born in 1859 lives to 1950, not inpossable, the Kid and Garret were good friends in the early years,things change yes of course they do but to take an old friends life is another matter,you have to save face but at the same time give a friend a chance to go on. Garret tried to document the story/life/chase and photo the episodes of Billy. Question? if garret was on a mission to further his career there should be a photo to prove to his employer's Billy was dead/after all the tin type of Billy with gun at his side,would in my mind be followed by Billy in pine box??????? |
| Posted By: thorntonater Posted On: May 18, 2003 Views: 5386 | billy the kid/bill roberts pat garrett didnt kill billy the gravein new mexico was wased away by a flood where the old ft sumner stood they did find bogys aftre the flood but never recovered all the bodys so DNA is out of the question ive seen pictures of bill roberts and i do have a degree in photo enhancement and its my opion that bill roberts is billy the kid the eyes are the same the hands are bigger than his wrists and he was damn near the same height not to mention that when bill roberts died the report said there were serveal old gun shot wounds in the legs and upper body so its my belief that bill roberts was in fact billy the kid if you need more info go to hico texas and see the billy the kid museum |
