I suspect that our UK road tax regime is overall approximatley right but that we have too many cars and not enough use of rail because so little road tax is collected at the point of road use. Fixed costs such as licences discourage driving less than paying the full cost of each trip as people do with rail. |

Who wants to stand for several hours on a train. The major factor that has hit trains is a short sighted Government years ago that got rid of local branch lines. They are also bloody expensive and for people in rural communities are impossible to get to. The Government has milked the cash cow dry and it is about time they cut their own inefficiencies and stopped claiming a pound a mile in travel expenses in cars and travelled by public transport. This is just the tip of a croupt government wasting our money |
