Rossi Puma 1892 Winchester Clone

I am new to Cowboy Action Shooting and I am looking for a rifle. I have been seeing the Rossi Puma 1892 alot on auction sights. Does anyone out there have one or know people that do? Are they a good, reliable gun for CAS?

I have a Rossi Puma 45 cal. and love it. It shoots straight and never has a stove pipe or ejection problem. I load my own ammo and it takes jacketed as well as CAS 250 grain semi wadcutters without hesitation. For the price, the value can't be beat in my book

I also have Rossi Puma in .45 Colt. It has the 16" barrel and only holds 8 rounds in the magazine tube, but it shoots like a champ. Go to Brownells web site and order one of the Marble's semi-buckhorn sights made specificly for the Rossi and you will see a marked improvement in the sight picture, improving your accuracy. I also removed the large loop lever and installed a standard one, tightly wrapping the loop with rawhide and protecting my knuckles during fast operation.

RE: Rossi Puma 1892 Winchester Clone

I've been using a Rossi 92 in 45Colt and my wife and step son use them in 38/357. Never had any problems with them, except they were real rough actions till I worked on them. now both are smooth as silk and have been for 4 years. And gunsmith can do the job if you can't and it will probably cost about $35.00.

I'd also reccomend thay you look at Bounty Hunter pistols if you don't have your's yet. Check them on WWW.EMF.com. They sell for less than $400.0 and are really reliable. Made in Germany.

Good luck, Jott

MINE IS AN OLDER ROSSI MODEL 65.IN 45L.C. NOT SURE,BUT THINK THIS IZ B4 THA PUMA LINE, NEVER THA LESS ITS A 92 CLONE. TOOK IT APART,STONED ALL THA MOVIN PARTS SMOOTH,PUT IT BACK TOGETHER.WASNT DIFFICULT AND WORKS SMOOTH A SILK.GOT TO BE THE EASIEST GUN TO BULLS-EYE WITH I'VE EVER SHOT.
WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT. ONLY COMPLAINT IZ HAVIN TROUBLE FINDIN A LARGER FINGER LEVER SO CAN BE SHOT IN COLD WEATHER WITH GLOVERS. AND I HAVE LIMITED MOBILITY IN WRIST, SO A LITTLE LARGER LEVER WOULD HELP.

RE: Rossi Puma 1892 Winchester Clone

You're about a year too late Chuck.. I had 3 cowboys waiting for that large loop lever when I took it off my Puma. I have since purchased one of the Winchester '92 Trappers from Davidsons. I still shoot the Rossi and like it better. The winchester says "Made in Japan" on the barrel. While the wood might be a little better quality on the Win., the overall package isn't worth almost three times the cost of the old style Rossi Puma. I have not fired one of the new Rossi rifles with the "ugly" safety lever on top. At least the '92 Winchester has a tang safety instead of the crossbolt type. All winchester lever actions will eventually have the tang safety.

RE: Rossi Puma 1892 Winchester Clone

I have a 92 Rossi before puma. It's in 357 and as with all of the combo calibers the shorter 38 specials give me headaches! I don't have many 357 cases but have thousands of 38s so I load them with the bullit sticking out farther and step up the powder to compensate for the extra space to maintain consistancy. I know lots who have had similar problems with combos in 357/38 and 44mag/44special. The same problem with feeding the shorter cartridge. 2 bullits drop from the magazine and sometimes bullit gets trapped against the loading gate and jams the action. A simple cure if you load.
