The arrest and seizure, which happened about noon, involved multiple law enforcement agencies from Indiana, said Sgt. Maj. Rodger Popplewell of the state police. The identity of the person arrested and the location of the Ligonier seizure are being withheld because of the ongoing investigation, Popplewell said. The drug investigation began with Immigration and Customs Enforcement in Texas, and when it led to Indiana, members of the drug-enforcement section of the Indiana State Police became involved. The 3,000 pounds of marijuana, broken down into multiple bundles to be distributed, has an estimated street value of $4.5 million, he said. Members of the Indiana State Police Fort Wayne Post, Ligonier Police Department, Noble County Sheriff's Department and the Indiana Multi-Agency Group Enforcement Drug Task Force assisted in the operation Wednesday. The Allen County Sheriff's Department seized a record 6,700 pounds of marijuana from an Antwerp Road house in March after a six-month investigation. The drugs were estimated to have a street value of $6 million. |
