This scheme, using your examples: Use the interstate colours for US routes that are up to interstate standards. People already associate I-shields with a freeway, so this would be appropriate. Use your second example (the coloured text) for routes that are upgraded but that aren't up to interstate standards (i.e. outdated-designed freeways, expressways, super-twos, rural arterials). Use the above example layout, but green on white text for the rest of the routes. The reason for this is people already associate that type of shield with business routes and small routes, so it would make sense to carry on that design. |
