Posted By: Kit Posted On: Jan 6, 2002 Views: 863 | Just some musing I voted for Robin-female Jun-male because, uh, that was the general impression I got while reading. Why? I'm really not sure. Part of it is because Jun is traditionally a male name (from what I know, anyway) and Robin is traditionally a girl's name. I actually didn't realize that there was no reference to either character's gender until I saw this poll. Then I went back and looked, and then I had to sit in a corner for a while. Any author who can do that without the reader realizing is. . . uh. . . I can't think of a word. Amazing? Or maybe I'm just dense. Whatever. I'll shut up now. |
Posted By: AFS Posted On: Mar 7, 2002 Views: 843 | RE: Just some musing Don't tell Robin Hood that! And for the people who didn't catch it : "It's Jun-kun,isn't it?" Glancing up, Jun met those eyes again, a shock of more direct contact, and managed a short, startled nod. Since Robin didn't get slapped for calling Jun a guy.... |
Posted By: Hope Posted On: May 8, 2002 Views: 833 | but on the other hand... I get annoyed generally when people bicker about details in Japanese, but I think it's worth noting in this case that the -kun suffix is *not* a purely male phenomenon. A sempai can call a female kohai -kun, and older people (especially men for some reason) call young women -kun. (Watch Ranma or Kenshin sometime, and count the "Akane-kun" and "Kaoru-kun"s. It's fun.) For either gender, it's endearing and a bit personal, which could account for Jun's surprise. So that's my two bits. I prefer female-female myself. ^_^ Enjoyed the story in a big way, but who didn't, eh? |
Posted By: Annie Posted On: Jun 4, 2002 Views: 824 | RE: Just some musing I thought it was probably female/female, mainly because of the mentions to friends. When Jun saw Robin, Jun was talking to girls and being teased. When Jun approaches Robin and calls out "Issei", Robin's companions giggled and shrieked (hence I got the impression they were girls too). Besides that, it would make sense for them to come back as girls. Given that Issei spent his life with Sakura, it would be understandable for Jinpachi to return as a girl, looking for Issei. Also, Issei/Enju was originally female, so it would probably be the form most comfortable. All the same, it's fun that it can be read any way you like! Well done. |
