Starvation

I think we all should worry about the starving farmers- men, women, and children- before we quibble over silly issues such as a couple square miles of desert, spending one million dollars a day which is what an average of 10,000 make per year. We should worry about the education and possible agricultural opportunities for farmers and their posterity, we should worry about the starving many in the streets, and most importantly we should eliminate famine throughout the motherland. I have heard the purpose of this so-called war is national pride. How can there be pride without a nation? We need to realize that people need to be helped in our own boundaries before we push outside our own boundaries. I am fortunate enough to have grown up in the United States, as a 13 year old I feel lucky that I do not have to work the farms as my father did or endure hunger as my mother and her 12 brothers and sisters did. I feel lucky that I did not experience the horror of refugee camps, I feel that all Ethiopians should not have to leave to escape opression or starvation, but these problems must be directly eliminated within our own borders.

RE: Starvation

I wish there was more of you. And less like the rest of us who have a comfortable life in the west here, but want to make our starving fellow humans in ethio-eritrea fight over something nobody needs right now.

RE: Starvation

I am very pleased to read such an opinion
from a young fellow ethiopian who is grown
up in the diaspora.
you brought it to the point, what many of
your seniours have been failing to realize.
I hope some of us can learn from you.

RE: RE: Starvation

thank you for eleoquently putting the far important issues, such as poverty, disease and backwardnes, that seem to take a back-seat to the fore-front because of the never ending border problem . I think one only need to be objective and see the facts on the ground to realize that asab means war and war is not in ethiopias best interest. to do that we can rewind our memory back to march-may 2000 at the peak of the war when it was common to see ethiopians starving to death on the various medias and we have to ask ourselves that aren't these people ethiopia's national interest too? now since the war is over we see the number going down nearly by 5 million. peace is the national interest of ethiopia.
