Ink Bottles ! And Skrip !

Perhaps it sounds a litle rude, but cartridges always seemed to me like refills of these 'ballpoint' think. A converter is almost the same, but can save me I.E. when I bought a modern Crest, but I even doubted to buy.
A pencil is allowed, but never a Biro, please.
That you have some ink in your fingers after filling or cleaning a pen? Well, this is more fun. Someone invented soap and water, and more recently, Amodex. And if you hate ink, use a Snork!

cartridge loving minority

I understand the attraction of using bottled ink, if for no other reason as I enjoy mixing colors to create my own custom shades.

I have used the travelers ink wells that allow me to refill my pen by inserting the nib into the top and turning it over to fill. I especially enjoy the terrified expressions on the faces of others when I do this as visions of jet black stains on their conference table flash before their eyes.

However, from a practical point of view, when I'm in a meeting and my pen runs dry, I can slip the reserve standard cartridge from the barrel, snap it in to the nib, and continue writing.

Standard cartridges are small and sturdy enough that I can keep a couple of them in an Altoids tin in my brief case when I'm on the go.

Fun topic for discussion, I hope more people chime in.

RE: Ink Bottles ! And Skrip !

I currently use cartridges, but I am thinking about switching to bottled ink. However, as I travel a lot for business (by car and plane) I am bit reluctant about switching. I am not sure how big a hassle it is to carry around a bottle. Anyone care to share some experiences?

I tend to prefer to use bottled ink, especially with piston-fillers and vacumatics. However, I also have some cartridge/converter pens.

Cartridges are much more convenient when travelling, and as some have mentioned at meetings, etc. (the latter can also be avoided by carrying more than one pen).

Cartridges are also cheaper, and when I am trying out a new type of color of ink, I usually prefer to buy a box of cartridges for $3-5 than a whole bottle (It also saves having lots of bottles of ink sitting around).

Ideally I like to use ink that comes in both bottle and cartridge in a cartridge filler - then I can us a converter with a bottle most of the time and have cartridges on hand in a pinch. It makes it easier to switch - especially if you need to switch when you can't easily flush.
