| Posted By: John Clinch Posted On: Jul 15, 2005 Views: 631 | New Legislation Lack of Award Increase All this new legislation what is it doing?. We have the government and its pollies saying it must be harder to get a security licence, courses must be longer and more expensive to complete the training, yet there has not been " any " mention of increasing the base award wage for security officers when everything to do our job has increased dramatically. When it comes to taxation all the gear we must buy ourselves ( due to " some " employers not providing the necessary gear like torches ) we get the third degree " again " from the government for these legitimate deductions. High risk jobs require higher hourly rates of pay not a pay rate that is lower then working at a pizza shop. |
| Posted By: Musashi Miyamoto Posted On: Jul 16, 2006 Views: 573 | RE: RE: New Legislation Lack of Award Increase I work in a commercial office building and as a security officer I am responsible for managing all fire alarms, bomb threats, accidents and first aid, intruders, building maintenance, OH & S, access control, computer programming for security access and building automation systems, parking, monitoring twenty odd camera's, all contractors access and keys, work 24/7 shift work some seven days in a row and all this while sitting in a busy foyer explaining to idiots why 260 is not at 255 and then have to listen to tenants complain they only got a seven thousand dollar annual pay increase which is bigger than my total annual pay increase over the last twelve years. Remember I don't get penality rates on any day of the year since 2000 and when I finish work at midnight Sunday I have to catch a train home. Please I'm sick of four cent's an hour pay increases with the union crowing about what a good job they did getting it for the next two years. Thats only $12.80 a week when my train fair just jumped $1.40 a day and I now only have a third of the trains to catch and my childcare fees just went up $40 a week to $360. I only earn $560 a week with a morgage to pay. Some days I only see my daughter asleep for a few moments. I have to pay for my security licence and first aid certificate and all my own equipment and mobile phone costs myself. Please don't insult my intelligence by giving me the lose change you picked up one day outside on the footpath as a yearly pay increase. Please no more Christmas Days working for $20.18 an hour be fair. The only difference between third world conditions a security guards conditions is we don't have to carry a basket of rocks up a cliff twenty times a day! |
| Posted By: National Risk Manager Posted On: Nov 17, 2007 Views: 424 | RE: New Legislation Lack of Award Increase If you are unhappy then look for a company that pays the right rates. Public Holidays should be on a rate of $37.00 an hour for a f/t position. If you are willing to work for a company that does not pay correct wages then you either leave or accept it. I would not accept it and after 20+ years, 15 of those in management are happy to consult rather than be an employee anyday. |
