| Posted By: Max Posted On: Mar 13, 2002 Views: 441 | Some trivia on songs for this week's chart Here's some info on some of the songs that are on this week's survey for the Top 40 countdown: The band Peppermint Trolly Company may not be a name you're familiar with, as their song "Baby You Come Rollin' Cross My Mind" was their only charted single. But you know what the group sounds like for sure. They did the first season's theme song to "The Brady Bunch". Austin Robert's first single "Ricky Ticky Ta Ta Ta" has more in common with The Archies than the Skooby-Doo connection. Roberts sang the lead on the songs featured on that series. But his song "Ricky Ticky Ta Ta Ta" which was released during the Summer of 68 also has a connection to the Archie's first single from later that fall: Bang Shang A Lang. The chorus of Ricky Ticky Ta Ta Ta "Shang-A-Lang-Lang Lang" and "Shang-Shang-Shang A Lang" are eerily close to the Archies song which came out later. I think Barry must have liked that part of the Austin Roberts song and did a little re-writing of his own. Gotta love a song who's chorus is: If I knew you better I'd give you some of my elephant candy. That is just one of the many innuendos from Fun & Games' song. Remember the "how many licks does it take to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop" commercial? Well, apparently Elephant Candy lasts longer and has a more interesting suprise to it. Oh, and what song in the hitbound songs was co-written by our very own Toni Wine? "Black Pearl" by Sonny Charles and the Checkermates Ltd. This is not the only Toni Wine related song on the charts. She's also there with the Archies on "Melody Hill" and on two of Tommy Roe's songs "Dizzy" and "Heather Honey". And if my ear is right, i think that's her singing in the background of the Flirtations as well. Toni was a hot commodity in that time frame. The Andy Williams song "A Time for Us" was the theme song to the movie Romeo and Juliet which was popular. But Andy also had a semi-hit with a song that is in the hitbound section as well a few months later. "Seattle" which was the theme song to the ABC TV show "Here Comes the Brides" was a follow up single for Williams after Bobby Sherman's version petered out before it got to the Top 40. I prefer Williams' version. All those horns on Shermans just sound so brash and kill the feel of the song, for me at least. There's a little bit of trivia and observations of some of the songs. I'll be posting these on the comments area of the Survey and any other little tidbits I can come up with about the songs. If you have any, feel free to hop right in there! |
